Firstly we cannot use the term 'British' any longer - just ask the scots. Erm I think that there are some great bands from our fair island which embraces scots, welsh and the english (and to my left northern irish, depending on where you're standing) but i'm totally with Bovey on this - there are some demi-gods out there but no gods and I think that it does matter.

When we look back on the naughties it will be like the finger buffet of music - nibble here and there but nothing substantial. I want a main course with a side salad of glamrock.
I haven't interviewed anybody for awhile (apart from Pop who's crap and just keeps saying 'fuck is that due now?') D'ya know why? Nobody is doing it for me at all - there will be the odd 'ooh' and 'ah' and that's it.

Music at the mo is like the foreplay without the fuck, the gin without the tonic, the fart without the lingering smell....and it's a dangerous place to be. We are living in a fast food music age where music is at your fingertips and we will only truly miss the legends that could have been when they never arrive. And they ain't gonna arrive in this environment.

I actually love Pete! Not what he's become but for what he was but not even he really had 'legend' status, ey? And I don't think that there's nothing out there - on the contrary, my argument is that there is too much out there. Too many bands who are great but not staggering.

Nothing substantial. I don't agree that legends are born just through marketing and the other things you described. You need a whole lot of talent (not a small amount) to remain a legend. What you've described is a 'fad' act in my opinion. Legends and fad bands are miles apart but what do I know? I think Neil diamond is a legend! It's all down to our own opinions at the end of the day. I fear i'm drifting away from the original purpose of this thread, per-usual.

I agree with the various points people have made about the democratization and accessibility of music nowadays; its brilliant for lots of reasons.

But its not just about the music is it? Where are those artists right now who transcend music? Where are those that can initiate major shifts in culture and thinking; those that can make people run of and start a new religion (for example); those that can – dare I say – change the world??

Finding an obscure little band in a dusty corner of the internets is great fun, but it ain’t gonna start no revolution baby ...
