- Harry Lime appears

4: 2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick, UK, 1968)
- From flying bone to space ship

5: Apocalypse Now (Francis Ford Coppola, US, 1979)
- Dawn helicopter attack

6: Blade Runner (Ridley Scott, US, 1982)
- Batty's dying speech in the rain

7: : The Great Escape (John Sturges, US, 1963)
- The Cooler King escapes on his motorbike

8: Casablanca (Michael Curtiz, US, 1942)
- Rick and Ilsa part at the airport

9: : Planet of the Apes (Franklin J Schaffner, US, 1967)
- Taylor finds the Statue of Liberty

10: Some Like It Hot (Billy Wilder, US, 1959)
- 'Well, nobody's perfect'

I agree with 6 and 9.

My top three are:

Midnight Express - when Billy starts walking the other way to all the prisoners in that circle thing (such great description - Barry Norman just cacked his pants) It's the point of the film where Billy 'finds himself again' in my opinon (in fact every scene in that film is a winner)

Gone with the wind - 'I'll never go hungry again' scene where Scarlett takes the mud in her hand and begins her vow of survival (now that was girl power)

Donnie Brasco - When Al pacino says goodbye to his loved one and removes his watch etc to go to meet his death. It makes me sob so much that I can't breathe.

Sometimes simple human gestures give a film their moment of viewing gold.

There's not many there you can argue with tho 1,2,4,7 are really great moments and 5 and 6 are truely classic scenes.

I'd add....

Heat - the scene in the diner when Pacino and De Niro are having a face to face.....wow!

The Matrix - the slo-mo gunfight scene in the lobby of the office block....watch that and hear the sound on a really decent surround sound system...its like you are actually inside the scene

Memento - so many great scenes, but the moment Natalie turns on Leonard in her appartment and tells him she's gonna use him - first time I saw that in the cinema you could almost hear the entire audiences jaws dropping simultainiously

Jarhead - the scene in the burning oil field with the lone horse coated in oil

Fifth Element - when Leeloo does a leap of faith off of the ledge of the high rise building.....visually stunning

Where do you end tho....Full Metal Jacket....Star Wars.....so many great movie moments.....

Well, I'm sure I'd feel much worse if I weren't under such heavy sedation.

As long as there's sex and drugs, I can do without the Rock 'n' Roll....

Ooooo...nearly forgot....the scene that nearly always brings me to tears...

Gallipoli - just before the ANZAC soldiers go over the top for the last time, they are all silently taking off wedding rings, keepsakes and writing letters to loved ones, and pinning them to the sides of their trenchs cos they know they are all about to die.... brings home the futillity of war to me and just the complete waste of human life....cue lump in throat...
