I'm not sure naming various top current managers who started in the lower leagues is a convincing argument. For all of them there will be dozens of Tony Adams, Paul Mersons, Bobby Charltons, etc who were frankly rubbish.

Yeah but we know Moyes isn't rubbish. The only thing that will decide whether he's right for the job will be the next couple of seasons.

Personally I was unsure. After he sorted Rooney out and has got off to a good start I'm pretty happy with how it's all going.

I'll get in early before the questions come...

Firstly - well done City. Totally controlled the game.

Question: Have I lost any faith in Moyes? No. I have the same faith in Moyes no as I did in Fergie after City beat us by an even bigger margin a couple of seasons ago.

Question: Does this mean United won't be title contenders? No. United stuffed Arsenal 8-2 last year and everyone wrote Arsenal off. They still got Champions League and that was with a far worse start. This has been our first really bad game of the season.

Was there a problem with Moyes motivating the team? Come on. It's the fucking Manchester derby, no more motivation needed. If it was a Monday night in January at Hull then maybe I'd question that.

Is there extra pressure on Moyes? The press will make there be until we win next, but it's WAY to early for that.

Why were we so bad? Three players mainly: Ferdinand was shocking. He's been one of our best players so far this season. With Jones being injured I actually signed him to my fantasy team as a replacement as his points tally was so high. Young (I know a lot won't like him because of the diving thing - understandable) but can score goals and play better than that. Same goes for Valencia. Those 3 let the team down. Fellaini didn't have a great day either.

Conclusion - really I think it was nothing more than one of those days. Just like the previous City result and Arsenal result mentioned above. Disappointing (well, gutting) but doesn't have me worried.

Marouane Fellaini has completed 96% of his passes in the second half. Much better from the big Belgian

Manchester United had 59% of possession in today’s game, despite Manchester City winning 4-1

I think just about all United's possession occurred in the last half hour while 4-0 down and didn't deliver much so those possession stats are pretty meaningless.

Fellaini was shocking. It doesn't matter that he had 96% pass completion - all his passes were over 2 or 3 yards - it was when he didn't have the ball that he was poor and not picking up players. He may end up being an effective signing just for being an obstacle to get past but he's slow and has a poor first touch. He doesn't look like a United player, basically.

Anyway, an amazing day for us Blues but in the context of the Championship it's nothing really. City will still drop points, especially away from home, and suspension or injury to Nastasic or Kompany will be difficult to cope with. It's a very open league this season.

Kev, how you can have the same faith in Moyes as you had in Fergie 2 seasons ago is beyond me. Fergie threw everything at City in that game to try and get back into it and it went tits up, with City hitting us on the counter again and again, but he rolled the dice at least. Rather than try and get back in the game, Moyes sent on Cleverly at 3-0 as damage limitation! Almost comical.

Today, just as with Pool and Chelsea, he set up for the draw with a squad of champions. It's too negative and whinging about the fixtures list again today after the flat line up he put out is poor and doesn't go down with United fans at this stage in his Utd career.

He's had a very poor Summer and a poor start to the league. Needs to start using Nani, Hernandez and Kagawa and use his squad properly.

I (marginally) disagree with Bovey about Fellaini - he's United *squad* quality, but, you pay that much for him, you gotta play him or you'll look a twat. Young is never a United first teamer as well, shouldn't be anywhere near our first team with players like Nani, Kagawa, Zaha needing games.

Hopefully Moyes learns quickly and shifts his mindset (see my previous posts).

On a more positive note - congrats to City on a great performance from a well set up, fit, technically gifted team. They spent well in the Summer and really turned up today, they're looking good.
