Trev and I were both sellers at a fantastic record fair yesterday in Brixton. It was run by Ian of How Does it Feel To Be Loved so it was aimed mainly at indiepop, C86 and post punk music. Some incredible stuff on sale, particularly C86 stuff and some real bargains.

You'll spot Trev and me manning stalls and Anarchy rummaging in a crate. Tony Tourette was also there but he was too busy hugging the bar and for some reason the blogger didn't think that was worthy of inclusion...

The last one is particularly interesting because the decline for not only HMV, but Virgin & Our Price too, was, in my opinion, partly due to them abandoning having individual buyers in each shop and switching to central buying.
I remember the Virgin in Oxford Walk in Oxford Street being much better for independent releases in the early 80s than it's big brother Megastore at the top of Oxford Street, simply because the independent record buyer there was Jim Thirwell AKA Clint Ruin AKA Jim Foetus. My regular record buying trips to London from Essex would always take in the Oxford Walk Virgin as well as Rough Trade, Small Wonder, Rock On & Daddy Kool's.

Liking the ideas they're trying to develop - and I am fairly indifferent to record shops these days - but if they all had a local flavour and individual buyers it would make me more interested in popping into a shop when I saw one as they wouldn't be identikit versions of each other.
