Certainly Barker should be there. The man is a genius and the way he uses our language is superb . Very clever.

The poll seems to be as what can be expected and does anyone actually think that Royalist arselicker Connolly is funny?

My votes are for Simon Pegg and more so for Jessica Stevenson - she is under rated and Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash - Early Doors - brilliant.

Oh yes Early doors is great Mime boy - nice supporting picture there and I love The Office and Little Britain - I thought we were just talking about stand-up though? So I read the thread wrong again - If that's the case then there is still funny people alive - just few on stage...I remember going to see Phil Jupitus once because people were saying 'Oh God he's so funny you'll die laughing...' Quite. Oh and I used to like Ed Burns for the accent alone - he sounds like many of my relatives - but then he did those Carphone warehouse ads? and it all went horribly wrong..and he cut all his hair off (and like Samson) lost his sense of humour...

Billy Connolly was an exceptionally, very naturally funny man right from the start. His problems began when he compromised his language for 'English types' and much of the Glasgow patter that made him famous (and funny) at home went down the toilet, taking much of his humour with it.

Cavey, Ed Byrne has grown his hair a bit (it's messy, you'd like it), but he's still not funny. Dublin's Jason Byrne (no relation, half of Dublin is called Byrne) is very good, though, catch him if you can.

Cavey - I'll take your word on TV, though it intrigues me how you know him - you his writer? He's a gagsmith and someone once told me he was generally just good but there was one complicated gag involving time travel that was genius and I've always wanted to see him since. If Mr Vine's reading, I'm sorry but Cavey's Club of Opinion has come down against you and it's over between you and me.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Peter Kay, so I will!

Hold your horses there my little Anarchy - I be a doin' a grave injustice to Sir Vine to leave it like this - he's not bad Johnny - he's repitive - you must see him once for the experience - like I said his delivery is excellent - he goes at break neck speed and he does make you laugh - but once you have seen him you will not need to see him again it appears -I know comics have routines but they should be changed now and again right? I will never tell you how I know Vine because you will not let me live it down - I know what you Soundsxp guys are like. Anyway fair play to all comedians because it's the hardest job in entertainment I think - was it Elton (Ben, not John) that said 50% of the audience are there to heckle you only? And what do you mean 'Am I his writer?' - you are so cheeky Sir Johnny.

Fernando - I always call him Burns not Byrne - he's growing his hair again? How do you know that I have a penchant for 'just got out of bed' hair? You're a bit spooky Fernando - did you hack into my computer and discover that I visit the 'Messy hair fetish' website throughout the day? Well man, explain.....

And Enid - what do you mean by your Tim comment? Well, the mind boggles...

Now I'm wondering about you and TV. It could be:

(a) he's your dad
(b) you're his mum
(c) you're a comedian too (if you're Hattie Hayridge, get your coat cos you've pulled!)
(d) you met him in a lap dancing club (he wasn't very good but you paid for a couple of dances)
(e) you were a contestant on Whittle (you had "a fabulous time" and won £25 and a commemorative clock)
(f) you share the same wigmaker

I will go on like this till you tell us!

Sadly, one of the greatest living standup comedians died last night.

RIP Rodney Dangerfield

Maybe now he can get some respect... over 70 appearances on the Johnny Carson show alone merits him respect, but to see him perform live was magic. He owned the audience, no matter the mix or size.
