I really rate Houghton but bottom 6 still looms.

We've got Morison, who underperformed alongside Holt for whatever reason, and Jackson, who fired us into the Premiership but was never really given an opportunity by Lambert to do what he'd achieved in the Championship. Both might benefit from Hughton's leadership.

Sort out our defence and I think we'll be fine, Holt or not.

That's pretty much the short version of what I was trying to say.

and now it's Laudrups job to lose (the Swansea job that is).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18325287

and that links to article that quotes our chairman last time he was looking for a new manager:

Quote:
Swansea have no luxury of a bottomless financial pit, so in an effort to cut down on player acquisitions - plus subsequent transfer, signing-on and agent fees - their squad filled with footballers must be appreciated by any new man in the hotseat.

"We feel that to compete at this level of football, we need to do things a little bit different," said Jenkins.

"There are few professions that allow a manager to come into business and change everything that the business has been doing for the last 10 years. Use accessible player and disable flyout menus

"When we got to the Championship, to compete with bigger clubs we had to analyse what we feel they do wrong and see how we can improve.

"We run a common sense business and when clubs change their playing squads to suit a new manager, it seems completely wrong to us.
"If a manager is lucky enough to come and work for us then he has to adopt our principles.

"And we have continued to progress despite managerial changes over the last three years so it shows our principles are working."

I'm sorry to see him go. Think Levy could be cutting his nose off to spite his face, in revenge for Harry not signing a new contract when the England job looked like a prospect. It's all too reminiscent of the Martin Jol sacking; and look what that lead to!
The whole 'England speculation unsettled the team and Harry took his eye off the ball' idea, has, for me been overstated. Two games (Arse & Norwich) aside, Spurs continued to play well, but dropped points sometimes to the odd lack of concentration at the back, but mostly due to strikers not taking their chances. It wasn't like the chances weren't there!
Harry made a few poor judgements, but letting Pienaar go back to Everton on loan was the only time I felt he made a really big mistake; Bale dropping to left back and Pienaar playing left midfield would've been a much more satisfactory solution to the Assou-Ekottu injury than playing the hapless Danny Rose at left back. People say he should have used the squad more, but whereas Man City could bring the likes of Nasri, Dzecko and Johnson off the bench, or Tevez off the beach, Spurs hadn't the money to have that sort of depth.
I wish Harry well. Would prefer Moyes to Martinez; Wigan may have finished the season strongly, but I remember just how abject they were before that. Whoever we get, expect the transfer requests to start rolling in.

I fear this may be Spurs' highest placed finish for a few years now. Stupid decision to let him go. I bet Liverpool are pissed off now. They appointed too soon!

Nah, Liverpool have got a better young manager who could shape the club for years to come, not a two bit wheeler dealer who leaves clubs in a mess (financially) when he leaves....

It's down to chairmen to control the purse strings and say 'no' if the manager asks for too much (as managers inevitably will).
Spurs understood this, Portsmouth didn't.

Oh come on, given the chance Liverpool would have snapped him up!

Well we'll never know. But he'd have been top of their list had he been available.

I don't think he would've been, to be honest. Liverpool seemed to be targeting a younger manger (Martinez, Rodgers etc) that could change the club around. Not sure they were after a manager who'd be likely to be into spending big.

Well their last manager spent big! I didn't work but it has done when Harry's done it. He could have another 10 years left in him yet. I'm sure they'd have been having words with him about it. He'll have a job somewhere next season, almost certainly in a top league.

Redkkanp's spending at Spurs is, I believe, more than ten million less than the income from sales.

That surprises me. It'll be the first club in a while he hasn't run into debt.

Also it's not all about the fees, it's the wages. But that's another thing - never been much of a fan of Harry though.

Even at Portsmouth, it was the wages much more than the fees.

A poster on a City forum who usually know his stuff says that Spurs had spent months trying to tempt Brendan Rodgers to the lane.

I also think Levy's desire to move Harry on pre-dates the England issue by quite some time.

I really dislike Levy as a chairman. I can't imagine why anyone would want to work with him. He's slimy, devious and appears unable to think of anything outside of the short term.

However, he is generous in terms of giving managers money to spend - I'll give him that.

From the BBC:

Quote:
BBC Radio Wales football reporter Gareth Blainey outside the Liberty Stadium in Swansea: "No official confirmation yet from the club, but it looks increasingly likely that Michael Laudrup will be named the new Swansea City manager."

As for Harry, I rate him. He's dodgy obviously and ultimately that cost him the England job but he's a good manager and you never hear of players falling out with him so he obviously has that good mix of human skills and strong enough management to get things done. Spurs would have nailed 4th last season had they had a bigger better quality squad. There was very little rotation.
