I lived in Old Trafford 90/91. My friend and I were sat in the Toll Gate when the Man U victory parade came past so we grabbed our pints and followed it into town (this was before world domination so it was actually quiite pleasing that they'd won something).

We left them to it when we got to town and went to Jilly's Rockworld instead for a headbang.

Montpellier aren't a small club by French standards, but they're only a couple of seasons back in the top flight, and a transfer record of £1.7m speaks for itself a bit...

They also have a £20k a week salary cap which by PL standards is incredible.

It was great for me watching that on TV aged 11. Absolutely loved it. I remember my mate phoning me up afterwards with jovial words of congratulations. That tends not to happen if we win stuff these days...

Even I was cheering you on in the late 70s when you reached the cup final v Arsenal - it was one of the better games too. I used to cheer on the northern team v any southern team and you were, by today's standards, rubbish. That was the last time though.

I wasn't born then and was too young to remember the 83 and 85 cup finals so 90 was the big one for me. First trophy I we won! Good old Lee Martin.

Top 4 average gates in France last season:

Paris Saint-Germain (42,892)
l'Olympique de Marseille (40,445)
Olympique Lyon (33,067)
RC Lens(21,774)

Marseille would've topped except their stadium is being redeveloped. St Etienne would've been in there too. PSG probably paid people toc ome in or something. Still decent showing for Lens despite nearly being relegated from Ligue 2.

Who'd have thunk that one of the most important men in football last season would turn out to be a bucktoothed camp comedian's dad.

In which bizzaro-world is Alan Carr a comedian?

Think he reached his summit of importance when he was the manager of the mighty Northampton Town. Don't think his family have come close to scaling those heights since.

We'd be mad to offer him the job and he'd be mad to take it.

I think the situation will resolve itself rather organically.

His odds have just been slashed and he's now 1/4 on to be the next LFC manager.

He's a great manager (and an excellent coach) and he'll manage a big side in the future but I think this is too soon for him to try the step up.

I think they've mistaken him for Bernard Rodgers.

This is worth a read

Still hope BR tells LFC to go fuck themselves, though.

I have a feeling that for the sake of his future career prospects he may phrase it a little differently than that...

Sounds like a done deal now. I thought after he signed Sigurdsson then he'd be staying myself...

I think it's madness all round personally - the guy's done a fantastic job at Swansea but he's had, what, 2 years of cumulative management experience? Not the sort of candidate I'd put in a pressure situation with Champions League football demands.

It's too big a risk for me. For both parties. I can't see it ending well.

I agree with all that^^

And it's a big shame he's left the Swans (if he has).

I think, if he's given time he'll do well. But he won't get the time - twitter full of scouse idiots mouthing off about wanting a BIG name. Well Liverpool ain't attracting those people anymore.

He's got the coaching experience. Whether he can handle a club that thinks it should be winning the league is another matter. Realistically it'll take 2-3 years to give Liverpool into the top 4 they are that far behind. Just hope he keeps his mitts off the Swansea players.
