All of Alan Moore's adaptations have a habit of being pretty crap. I've not seen V for Vendetta yet, I've heard mixed things about it.

Read V for Vendetta and thought it was good. I do want to see the film and, although it seems to be panned by everyone who has seen it, I am trying to convince myself that nothing can be that bad. Of course Alan Moore has refused to have his name associated with it, but hasn't he done that with every other film adaptation of his work? i.e. the film adaptation of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. A neat story/concept, a good graphic novel (although II was very disappointing). How could the film makers get it wrong? It got panned. Surely nothing can be that bad, I thought. Oh dear. The critics were right. Load of pointless special effects to the detriment of everything and everyone else. I should have paid attention. So perhaps I should pay attention to the V film critics (but surely it can't be that bad, can it?). And From Hell. A great tome of a graphic novel, utterly preposterous but a good read. Not sure which part the From Hell film was based on though - Aveline (Depp), a youngish detective junk fiend with sixth sense? Good grief. These yanks do take liberties, do they not. Mind you the film has it fans, but I don't regard that as an adaptation at all. Just hope they don't try and film Watchmen, Tom Strong, etc.

How long before they sell V masks I wonder? Unlikely to outsell the Scream masks I suspect.

The V masks will be a hit with students this hallowe'en, but the general mask-buying public are far too apathetic as far as politics is concerned to even care what the guy was bangin on about.

I saw one film critic ask the filmaker if they thought it was appropriate to have a film that promotes terrorism, and showing buildings being blown up. Now, I think this might be a valid question - it throws up the old adage about one person's freedom fighter being another man's terrorist of course - eg French Resistance - heroes; Viet Cong - villains - but I just wonder if this question would have been asked pre-9/11. I suspect not - did anyone demur when Fight Club was released, with its final scene of collapsing buildings? Call me paranoid - and I bet you are behind my backs - but are we entering a new phase of censorship? But then I don't think the V film will in any way look at this question, or indeed anything, seriously.

It's a valid question; would the film have been as well received by the public had it been a mysterious Muslim extremist making a call to arms to other muslims to blow up parliament and fight for their rights or would that have been too close to home?
