Yep. On the other side - due to the non-gory BBC coverage I only worked out how bad an injury it must've been when all the fans applauded him off the pitch. On the grounds that I'd always assumed that it would be little short of death that would get Alan Smith being universally applauded at a Man U- Liverpool match. So fair play to them.

I've never had much time for the "they're not real fans" bollocks that gets trotted out whenever something like this happens. I mean, are they saying that being genuinely and passionately devoted to a football club somehow prevents you from performing acts of mindless aggression and/or vandalism? The "cause and effect" part of that argument elludes me... Or is it that "real football fan" is defined as "someone who's genuinely devoted to football and never performs acts of mindless aggression"? If so, the justification for the second criterion is not exactly obvious.

No generalising there then.
