Morton Valence
Man On The Corner/Sailors
Bastard Records 7”

At last: electronica with substance! Morton Valence started as a synth-pop duo before bulking out to a six-piece with rhythm section and keyboards. Of their double-A sided debut, ‘Man On the Corner’ has a cool and stately electronic build up before ramping up into full New Order mode after three minutes. But it’s ‘Sailors’ that sticks in the memory longest, a less cerebral but more brilliant electro-pop hybrid of Gary Numan and the Magnetic Fields with a touch of the Velvet Underground.
