Hi,

Just to let you know the first ever Manchester Popfest is going to be happening this year on August 15th & 16th at Kraak Gallery NQ and Islington Mill. So far we have some great bands confirmed including the School, Slowcoaches, Keel Her, Los Bonsais, Papa Topo, Spinning Coin and Pega Monstro. We will also be screening the documentary 'My Secret World: the Story of Sarah Records' and will be hosting a zine festival, with more bands to be confirmed soon. Here's some more details about the event/ tickets etc:

SATURDAY AUGUST 15TH AT KRAAK GALLERY NQ:

KEEL HER - Lo-fi bedroom pop from Brighton, referencing R Stevie Moore, Beat Happening and Ariel Pink.

SLOWCOACHES - Leeds-based Noise Pop three piece, bringing to mind Sonic Youth/ Dinosaur Jnr etc.

SPINNING COIN - New Glasgow band from members of Plaaydoh/ Smack Wizards with a sound reminiscent of Postcard or early Flying Nun Records.

SEEDS OF DOUBT - London scuzz-pop band influenced by Blur, Pavement and the Clean.

SOFT DRINKS - London DIY pop from former members of Waterworld/ Sir Yes Sir.

FREEDOM SCREECH - Local lo-fi Shoegaze/ noise pop two-piece influenced by Flying Saucer Attack and Galaxie 500.

SWEETHEART - London DIY punk band similar to Black Flag/ Minor Threat, their last EP blew us away.

+ Manchester Zine Fest & more bands tbc

SUNDAY AUGUST 16TH AT ISLINGTON MILL:

THE SCHOOL - Cardiff indie-pop ensemble, fresh from headlining Indietracks Festival they are promoting their next record on Spanish pop label Elefant.

PAPA TOPO - Fellow Elefant band from Mallorca, creating super-catchy melodies. Their debut single, 'Oso Panda', was an overnight success and they have since gathered a big following on facebook and twitter.

LOS BONSAIS - Spanish noise pop duo who combine the electricity of My Bloody Valentine, the primitivism of Beat Happening, and the feedback of Jesus & Mary Chain.

PEGA MONSTRO - New signing from Upset the Rhythm, sounding like a Portuguese version of the Shaggs crossed with Spacemen 3.

SPREAD EAGLE - Featuring former members of Lungleg and Peter Parker, bringing to mind the off-kilter pop of fellow Glaswegians the Pastels.

FORMER BULLIES - Manchester DIY surf-pop legends who have supported Daniel Johnston and the Lemonheads.

AMIDA - Indie-pop janglers harking back to the lo-fi pop of the Go-betweens or the Cannanes.

COP GRAVEYARD - New Manchester band, sounding somewhere between Jad Fair and the Swell Maps.

'MY SECRET WORLD: THE STORY OF SARAH RECORDS' FILM SCREENING

First Manchester screening of the documentary which was first screened as part of 'Between Hello & Goodbye', a tribute to Sarah Records at the Arnolfini last year.

Tickets can be purchased via skiddle & Piccadilly Records and the full line-up and schedule will be updated on our facebook/ tumblr etc shortly.
