Date:25/09/08 Venue:The Retro Bar, 78Sackville Street, Manchester M1 3NJ Bands: Amusement Parks on Fire + Breaking Colts + Apes Fight Back + First Black Precedent Doors: 7.45pm Amusements Parks on Fire The band began as the solo project of Michael Feerick in 2004, who wrote and recorded ten songs on a small budget with friend Daniel Knowles engineering the sessions. The self-titled debut album was released in the UK on INVADA Records, a label run by Geoff Barrow of Portishead in 2005. The band then signed to V2 Records in 2005 and recorded their second studio album 'Out of the Angeles' at Sigur Rós' Sundlaugin studio in Álafoss, Iceland. This was followed by a co-headline tour of the UK with US noise outfit Scarling and a headline tour across mainland Europe and Scandinavia. The band played in Japan for the first time at the Summer Sonic Festival 2006. In addition to the second album 'Out of the Angeles', the band are currently recording a series of limited edition 12" EPs — the first of which, 'In Flight' was released early in September 2006 and this was followed by 'A Star Is Born' on the 2nd of April 2007. The band are back on the road again after an earlier UK tour and time in the studio to record material for release in 2008. Think Pink Floyd, the Cure, the Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth and a younger generation including Sigur Ros and Mogwai. The current line up consists of Michael Freerick (guitars/vocals), Daniel Knowles (guitars), Gavin Poole (bass) and Joe Hardy (keyboards) and Peter Dale (drums) and you can catch them on myspace, youtube and MTV. www.amusementparksonfire.com www.myspace.com/amusementparksonfire Breaking Colts "Breaking Colts are The Ramones with their guts split open, black leaden eels spilling out onto the stage, tearing flesh back to death-white bone. Next month they support Magik Markers: it's a perfect match - heavy hair, inaudible mumbles, fuzzy bass plunges, all that ovarian jazz! I'm pinned down by bizarre metaphors, rushing in through the spaces in their music. The bassist's thigh-bone, clad in black denim, is the loudest symbol. Everything onstage is amplified, even the final splintering of drumsticks. BC like 10,000 BC." www.myspace.com/breakingcolts Apes Fight Back Blackburn-based Metal band, bringing a new meaning to Drum 'n' Bass and will tear the flesh of your bones with their music. www.myspace.com/apesfightback First Black Precedent "... Joy Division meets Bad Moon Rising-era Sonic Youth." "... a hit with the intellectuals, improvising with their use of drumsticks, like a novel attempt to mask the high pitched feedback." - Katie Storey, Manchester Evening News www.myspace.com/firstblackprecedent Wot God Forgot Promotions |
