What are the musical instruments that the sound of which, more often than not, signify it'll be a thumbs down? For me it's the sax. Not when used as part of a brass section with trumpet, trombone, etc, but on its own or just accompanying strings. Horrible. |

mines the flute, it doesn't really fit in anywhere and looks bleeding silly. quite like the sax. |

Ah bollocks! The best 8 bars of music Nick Drake ever recorded is the middle 8 in At The Chime of A City Clock with just his guitar, some soft drums, some strings and a sax banging out over the top... exquisite stuff so it is. I have to say a Theramin (sp?) has never done it for me... |
