In Western Europe, we can't really claim to have lacked anything growing up but does anyone have anything they asked for but didn't get when they were nippers? I'll start: |

A Chopper here too. And my own record deck. And a photocopier (ok this was never going to happen but I genuinely wanted one) And... toilet paper... ![]() |

due to my parent's combined snobbery/poverty i wasn't allowed loads of stuff as a kid: star wars stuff action men a snorkel parka transformers micro machines trainers that didn't come from freeman hardy willis cats or dogs (had stick insects and a homicidal rabbit) a video i did however have loads of lego and airfix kits so i can't complain. although i wasn't allowed a chopper either i did get a second-hand grifter for christmas one year, which was possibly the heaviest slowest and also most dangerous bike of all time. stupid nut-crushing sturmley archer twisty handgrip piece of shit. been thinking about childhood bikes quite a lot lately and in fact daddy have just finished a song about it. even more spookily having spent last night dilligently rehearing said song with jlord, i set off for work this morning on my bike and came a spectacular cropper at the junction of old street and clerkenwell road. just arrived at work having limped my bloody-kneed way in pushing my bent and tangled bike. ![]() |

I never had a chopper, but did have Raving Bonkers (or Battling Robots, or whatever it was called) and lots of action men - the action man casualty rate in my house was higher than at the Somme (where, oddly, not many action men saw, er, action). I quite possibly had a storm trooper. I also had battling tops. It really was in the wrist action. And a Sega megadrive - but by then I was a grown up and bought it myself. |
