What I like best is the LACS spokesman. "They have a right to perform wherever they wish, but really it is a bunch of geriatric rockers who fancy themselves as landed gentry. This contrasts with the likes of Bono or even Geldof. Whatever you think about them, at least they are doing something about the poorest people in society, not supporting ripping up foxes." Suitably grudging and faint praise of Bono and "even" Geldof. Top man/woman! |

The funniest thing I saw connected with the Countryside Alliance was a poster with an extremely attractive black woman dressed in hunting gear with the caption Don't Talk To Me About Prejudice. Laugh. I nearly brought a pint before walking out. |

Erm, assuming you weren't taking the piss, Andy Fairweather-Low is one person - being a toff he's just got a surfeit of names. I don't think Low are anywhere near this. |

As much as I try to like em, I can't get past the fact that Pete Townsend is the most annoying and smug cunt in rock history. I used to think Daltrey was okay but he's probably a cunt too. |

he was the reason that i first came to really dislike them. that and a long car journey with our drummer during which he played "the best of" on a loop. alright it was only once, but that was enough. when they started they were all cool and mod-looking with great dirty pop singles then daltry started poncing about in overalls and a brown leather catsuit with tassles hanging from it and that horrible horrible rock hair. plus he played chesney hawke's dad in somthing that i saw in my formative years. that didn't help. plus i don't like his voice anyway. he's just a screamer. i hate all of their stupid unfunny novelty songs with odd creepy childish joke things in them. they just give me the creeps. and i hate and everyone twatting on about what a great bass player john entwhistle was just because he did that fast solo thing in my generation (alright, that's a good song... the early stuff is okay i guess) but basically he was rubbish. dull and unimaginative. and he didn't even hold the bottom end down with his clangy trebbly bass sound that somehow manged to seem dated and 80's in the late 60's and remained dated and 80's until he died in 2000 and something. his songs were shit too. boris the spider? what are you? 7? fuck off! and he just stood there doing fuck all which somehow got him this reputation as a MAN OF ROCK of some sort. man mountain and all that cobblers. i hated his sparse beard and horrible pointy bass guitars. i hate that they kept touring right after he died as well. mercinary bastards. i hate pete towshend for staring back at me when i look at my face in the back of a spoon. he's pretentious and boring and his famous windmilling and guitar trashing moves always look totaly contrived and performed to me. he alse wrote tommy, a rock opera, which is the most pretentious and annoying concept ever conceptualised. it's also unsurprisingly one of the wankiest pieces of music ever written. i feel dirty whenever i see the unopened dvd box that someone lent me on my shelf. and that lifehouse thing? what the fuck is that about? please. i hate the fact that they alway pop up at pretty much any free outdoor or charity event twirling microphones and playing won't get fooled again (one of the most overrated and tedious songs of all time clocking in, as it does at stultifying 47 minutes long. or something. seriously, at any fucking opportunity. the queen's birthday, hyde park or that fox hunting thing. there's just something about them that i really really dislike. the paedo charges, posho-politics, and po-faced moaning don't exactly endear them to me either. towshend wants to project this image of a quirky, troubled genius plagued by beethoven's deafness demons and fighting the evils of the internet world through powerful right-hand strumming. really to me he just seems like a sad, bitter and self-conciously posturing old man who hasn't written a decent song in 35 years. moony was pretty cool though. |
