Mixed emotions. A brilliant talent for sure.. but ultimately he squandered it Personally, I prefer my United number 7s a little more gallic |

I liked the headline on the BBC website today: "Best doctors fear the worst." |

So farewell then George Best Sometime companion to various blondes. Kieth's mum says You were a good footballer In your day But I mainly remember you from Soccer Saturday on Sky. "United are looking comfortable now", That was your catchphrase. And now I'm going to get Very Very Drunk. It's what you would've wanted. |

go on George. let's just hope people remember what put George in the limelight, not what destroyed him. this has made me really sad, which is odd because as far as alcoholism goes, George had a fucking great time for years. and he was lucky and gifted. but then i think what happens is when someone famous who you like or respect dies from something that affects MILLIONS of 'normal' people, you are actually feeling sad for every wasted, sorry case you pass in the street every day. but the famous person kind becomes the embodiment of it. whatever, i dunno. RIP Georgie Best. you fucking LEGEND. x |

Well it won't be and wasn't at COMS today. Whilst I don't condone the numpties drowning out these things I really think we've got to stop having them for every footballer who passes away. It's getting too frequent (wasn't Emlyn Hughes the last one? - half the people there would have gone who?) and because it's just asking for trouble. If Utd want to wear the armbands and have a minutes silence at their next home game then fair enough, good idea, but expecting every other club to do so is excessive. Anyway not in good mood. Just seen the far from mighty Blues look clueless on Chinese TV against the Scousers. Gonna be a long season... |

I think the minutes silence should be limited to teams he played for. He wasn't exactly known for the quiet life though was he I guess thats why some of the teams seem to be clapping through the minute. Went to Aston Villa on saturday and they had the minutes silence, bit bad taste that they had a mascot for a beer company in the form of an oversized pint glass on the pitch at the time. The whole argument of whether George deserves the sympathy depends on where you stand on alcoholism being a disease or not and obviously there will always be designer mourners. |

May have been hasty in saying City fans abused the minutes silence. The Observer claimed it was Liverpool fans - the City ones clapped through it. |

I thought it went OK, yesterday.. the minutes applause is better than the minutes silence (largely because it can’t be fu*ked up, I suppose).. Also, I heard it was City, Liverpool and Leeds where the silence wasn’t respected, horribly predictable on all three counts.. Its weird cos George was never synonymous with United the same way that Cantona, Robson, Charlton etc. are… and he has never loved to that degree either (mainly cos he pissed us off far too often) .. so why it became a “Man Utd” thing over the weekend I’ve no idea. |
