So tell me, what great lines float your boat at the moment? One of my favourites at the moment is from Bell X1... "She said "I don't believe in any old Jesus, if there was a god, then why is my arse is the perfect height for kicking?"" |

There's one line from a Guillemots song that goes "And I still think of you on cold winter mornings, darling they remind me of when we were at school" that I'm obsessed with at the moment. And "Maybe you're young without youth, maybe you're old without knowing anything's true. I think you're young without youth" from American English by Idlewild I will be obsessed with for eternity. And then there's the classic "Ho Ho Ho, I'm a bad mo fo" from that Avid Merrion Xmas song. ![]() |

Luke Doucet's Broken One opens with the line, "One day you're gonna miss me/ One day you're gonna wake up cold/ Then you'll wish that you could kiss me/ when you're old and you're alone." I was going through a break up when I first heard that. |

Look, you all know I'm a "live and let live" kinda guy, but, really, "Art Brut... great lyrics" IN THE SAME SENTENCE? Jesus, no. If Art Brut was a Premiership striker it'd be Milan Baros - six goals a season and plenty of time on the physio's couch. I could eat a rhyming dictionary and shit better lyrics than them. They only seem good coz they're ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so ever so slightly less shit than the rest of the miserably moribund, up-to-its-knees-in-its-own-excrement indie scene. They're not singing about looking good on the dance floor or some bollocks nostalgia for school days (oh, crap, they are) so people reckon they're the new Nightingales/Fall/Talking Heads. But they're not. They're a bog-standard, strickly-by-the-numbers bunch of indie clones who hide their mediocrity behind a ramshackle sound and self-consciously "cute" bad singing. WAKE UP! |
