Well Imust say it's better to have a conversation about it rather than not be able to. Never thought I'd praise 'forums' but in this instance, they do seem rather useful. Fairplay to anyone who says TWG doesn't float Your boat. That's what music is all about I guess. It's the subtle steals and references that are put in that qualify rather than a blatant rip off y'know? and that's what Ours tend to be, subtle eg the guitar intro on Casino is predominantly from 'Ghost in my house' - another n.soul classic but also lifted from Echo and the bunnymen's 'Head's will roll'. All these nuances don't speak to everyone I know, but because I write without experimentation and with classic sensibilities in mind I guess a younger audience may think it's all abit radio 2. Which to be honest I would take as a massive compliment as it's by far the most varied station We have. 17 million listeners a show nearly. That would keep me in a wage I'm sure !!! Just have a problem with the word bland. Dma |

Well Bovine juice, unfortunately there are currently no mp3's to hear on our site and can send you none either. You can click on the 'free promo' cookie on our site and you'll be sent something swiftly. My comments about our music 'in allegience' with Northern soul (of which I am also a big fan though don't go kicking my leg up over my head much these days!), were really about subject matter as I said in previous postings. A little bit of a personal experience. That's all. Unless you start counting the motown snare fills at the beginning of verses, but that's for musicians to scoff about! ![]() Because Im a fan I wouldn't be dumb enough to just copy such a sound when the rest of our material ricochets around many other different influences. 'Casino' simply addresses a feeling, a flow, some nice imagery. There's no brass, no strings, no black voices, wasn't recorded with analogue valves and doesn't sound like northern soul. I'd hate for you to have misinterpreted that. Although a great example of something that my ears interperate as a huge nod to Northern soul would be Mcalmont & Butler's 'Yes' for example, though Im not sure how many die harders would agree with that or even be able to see it. Anyway, we don't pretend to be anything. im a songwriter, that's what i do and with 5000 or so albums, one of the best bits about songwriting is pilfering little ideas or phrases from the records you love. Quite natural really. Subtlties make the good songs great. Several mods quite like us if that's any use !!! (Could be my rickenbaker guitar or simply the age bracket !!) ![]() DMA. |
