I've a fierce thirst on me for more after watching Searching for Sugar Man. Whatever about the exclusion of our man's Antipodean success, it'd still be in my top ten. It's a good yarn, with an interesting character, and the most wry and articulate comments on the relationship between class and dreams came from the mouths of the most ordinary people featured in the film. The Last Waltz is also in there, for Van Morrisson's high kick, if nothing else. And the beautiful Buena Vista Social Club. Strange Powers gave us a glimpse into the off-limits world of Stephin Merritt; and the touching, and occasionally painful, dynamic between himself and Claudia. Dig! was an enjoyable romp on rivalry between the Brian Jonestown boys and the Dandy Warhols. Give us her recommendations there hi. |

I've not seen the latest Nick Cave one, but The Road To God Knows Where was a great low-key account of life on the road. Not sure about others that really grab - at least not that I've got around to yet. I'm regretting lacking the time and money to do Sheffield's Doc/Fest properly. Looks great this year. |

Oil City Confidential Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer (not strictly a music doc, but sort of relevant to the thread) The Punk Syndrome The Transatlantic Feedback My Name Is Albert Ayler The Devil and Daniel Johnson Beware Of Mr Baker End Of The Century The Wild World Of Hasil Adkins Basically Johnny Moped New York Doll Standing In The Shadows Of Motown Anvil: The Story Of Anvil The Echo Of Astro Boy's Footsteps In Search Of Blind Joe Death Half Japanese: The Band That Would Be King The Very Strange Story Of The Legendary Joe Meek (TV Doc) George Clinton: Tales Of Dr Funkenstein (TV doc) The Punk Singer I'd recommend all of these, even if you are not a fan of the musicians involved. Also quite liked some of those Britannia docs on BBC4, particularly Prog Britannia and Jazz Britannia. |

I'd also recommend: The Punk Singer The Ramones: End of the Century Whilst adding: We Jam Econo (Minutemen) Hello Quo (or did it have another title, the documentary from 2012, I think) The Devil and Daniel Johnston |
