As a tie in to the recent Rock decades programs on BBC 4, Danny Baker did a little 10 minute tour of some of the musical 'bits and pieces' from his life as a music journalist, television & radio presenter and record shop employee. http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/0/26048898 I've never been a big one for keeping memorabilia and most of what I had accumulated, I threw away many years back (pre Ebay days, I probably could've made a good few quid, if I'd kept it all; I found a photo of myself from about 1982 with my walls covered in flyers and promo stuff). I did have cause to go through my one remaining box of stuff recently, I've leant a few bits and bobs to a writer who's doing a book on independent music in the 80s and scanned a few photos for a guy who's making a film about the era. Most of the stuff I've kept is things friends from back in the day were involved in. Anyway, the point of this thread: What interesting music related memorabilia do you have? If you are able to scan anything, it would no doubt improve the thread. Here's my favourite thing from my one remaining box. It's a piece of paper that was made into a paper plane and thrown into the audience by The Legendary Stardust Cowboy at a gig at Dingwall's in the mid '80s. Unfolded, it reveals the Stardust Cowboys PO Box address and on the other side he has drawn a scene of a flying saucer above a desert scene. |

No takers on this thread, presume none of you have any memorabilia, so I'll open it up to pictures of memorabilia on the web as well. Pop star dolls! Note that Herman "Bends into swinging poses"! Many more at the always excellent Voices Of East Anglia http://www.voicesofeastanglia.com/2014/02/dolled.html |

Yes, sadly I think you made the schoolboy error of making your initial pitch too impressive, we looked at our smattering of minor indie-band ticket stubs and promotional beermats and retreated from the thread, heads bowed. Actually I don't have anything apart from a bit of BSP tat. I never made it to that many gigs and never kept tickets or anything. Even most of my t-shirts disintegrated. I won one of these Go-Betweens 3" CD singles as part of a radio competition, and sold it on at Selectadisc . Cos back in 1989 I didn't have a CD player and couldn't really concieve it would be worth buying one, as LPs/cassettes were cheaper. Which seems really weird 25 years on. Wish I'd kept it. I've still got the vinyl 16 Lovers Lane album and singles I won. I also won a couple of gig tickets which came in the form of cloth access passes. Should've kept one of those. But didn't. I remember the support was a woman who played a song called "Frances, Your Dog Is Dead". Never did find out who it was. |

I have a signed (and now framed) Mighty Lemon Drops poster on my wall coz it's pretty! All my other memorabilia including loads of fanzines, cuttings, t-shirts are long gone and in case of the latter didn't fit any more. |

Like SPT I have a pile of BSP tat but very little else, I used to have loads but it all went when I left home. Generally people didn't keep that stuff years ago did they? My mate helps run the Manchester District Music Archive http://www.mdmarchive.co.uk and he is always bemoaning how few people have kept things |

My mum was the owner of a scrap of paper signed by four lads called The Beatles, but then her purse got pinched and that was the end of that. |

Like everyone else, I think most of my stuff is in the attic and I haven't got a scanner for the stuff I have around: like my Arcade Fire aftershow pass from their first UK gig (Kings College) or the letter when I won tickets to watch Dressy Bessy live on the Peel show at Maida Vale (2002 - I went with Tony Tourette, who drank a lot of free BBC lager). I wish I had the signed Blondie calendar that I bought at their Lancaster University show in 1978 (a really badly attended Monday night show), just as Denis was breaking (us teens were allowed into Uni shows) but I lost in on the walk home in torrential rain. Still, I did get to meet the divine Debbie, who was then absolutely stunning looking. I think I have posters for all the SoundsXP shows too, and my (signed) R Ring one is framed! |
