They've split up then. D'you know, in spite of them being like MASSIVE I don't think I've ever seen them discussed in depth on these boards. Bit odd considering the 80s/early 90s (when they were in their pomp) is usually very well covered on here... I like REM. Although I can't think of an REM album that I actually enjoy from start to finish. I mean when they were good, they were very VERY good but all of their albums to me seem to be 30% exquisite; 50% ok; 20% turgid. Well, their best albums anyway. |

I'm with Westie. I love the odd few tracks by them but I'm not a big fan. I wouldn't listen through a whole album out of choice. |

Amazing band who wrote amazing songs. They kinda got so big/twatty that no-one could admit how fuckin' good their songs were. I Love listening to REM best ofs, actually. Just quality song after quality song, it floors me. |

Oh they were simply awful - I mean they were known by more than ten people (and liked by them too!) and they played at well known venues and sold millions and trillions of records - simply awful. No wait, that's the music snob in me. You've had a lobotomy if you can't acknowledge their contribution to music. On a different note can comebody explain Everett True's blog on the matter because I simply don't get it. I clicked on the link, wasted a minute of my life, and I don't get it. Is this male humour in all its glory? He's obviously a higher being than myself, oh so clever, bathing in his intellectual superiority. |

The list of pictures showing the face of utter indifference should give away his opinion. |

I love Automatic For The People, but none of their other albums have really grabbed me as a whole. A 'best of' would be ace, tho. (Bit like The Cure in that respect.) |
