Just rereading Julian Cope's Head On and i’m up to the bit where they all take a load of acid before their first Top of the Pops appearance Here it is: Damon Albarn also famously took his first E when Blur did There's No Other Way on TOTP: Anyone know of any other examples of pop stars getting ripped to the tits prior to a primetime TV appearance ?? |

I'm not sure whether he was on drugs but Eddie Tenpole was surely on something the first week he appeared performing Swords of a 1000 Men. By the second week I'd read they'd told him to calm down and he looked almost sedate by comparison. Then again he is/was bonkers. |
