A few probably... hearing the late 80s/early 90s indie scene... the House of Love, Weddoes pre-Seamonsters, Inspiral Carpets, Stone Roses, etc... CDs just taking off but vinyl 7" still king and shopping for bargains in Greenwich, Lewisham and Cheapo Cheapo in Soho... going to the Venue in New X regularly for gigs and drunken buffoonery. new wave 79/80 and futurist stuff 81... 6th form and loving the Clash, Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers, XTC, Devo, the Banshees, Monochrome Set, etc and going to gigs for the first time and DJ-ing playing stuff that was briefly labelled futurinst at the time like Cabaret Voltaire, DAF, The Normal, Depeche Mode, Gina X, etc hearing the Libertines on the radio now reminds me of the great early days of the site and seeing the band a good few times in tiny venues... pissed and loving the music and chaos of it all. good current festivals like Truck, IndieTracks, etc... |

My teenage metal years - they always make me smile. I still love a lot of those bands (AC/DC, Motorhead etc). Late 1986 and 1987 - discovering indie. Be it The Shamen (before they went dance) or My Bloody Valentine or Loop or Primal Scream. There was a club on in Port Talbot. £2 to get in. Indie bands playing every thursday. Happy days. To think I thought that clubs like this would always exist on my doorstep. Early 1990s. Student years. Taping Peelie and buying zines. Going to gigs in Newcastle (Broken Doll, The Riverside). 1990's festival whore. Not so much about the music - but great times had. 2000-2003 following Freeheat around this little planet. Such a blast. And that last 4 or 5 years in London - and the resurgence of indiepop! |

1955 - 1966. From the birth of rock 'n' roll until it's near strangulation at the hands of fucking hippy deadheads! Also a great time for soul, pop and Ska. 1977 -1982 The period in which indie meant bands operating independently with independent thought and ideas as well as independent labels. Rather than the current definition of indie i.e. white boys playing insipid guitar pap. |

Ooh the 5 star times - mid eighties - late eighties? I was a teen and on top of the world. There was a bunch of us, about twenty, and we'd go to 'the logs' (which was just a series of log constructions - our stonehenge) and we'd bring our music boxes and just dance and laugh away all night. Good times *eyes well up* And my first days of clubbing, and remembering hearing 'Ride on time' for the first time and the likes of 'Bring forth the guillotine' by Silver Bullet ooh and I loved a bit of house especially 'The Texan' I think it was called. I'm also happy right now with music regarding the latter part of this year with TBFB releasing new material and i'm liking Manda Rin. ![]() |
