Hopefully a German and Dutch final so we can just get the mass chants of can we have our bicycles back from the Dutch fans. Thought the Germans were great last night (that first goal was sublime) although Ronaldo not cutting the mustard on centre stage was a joy. |

Thank Christ Italy are out. At least 9 players behind the ball at all times and diving non stop. I hope their team gets the traditional welcome home reserved for when they've disgraced themselves (and for a bunch of talented players to play for 120 minutes for either pens or a set piece chance was a disgrace). |

I was liking the look of this Italian side in the group stages too... seems they reverted to type against the Spaniards though. And they're out. Good. I remember when South Korea knocked them out of the World Cup in 2002 and Barry Davies (who was commentating) went on a brilliantly colossal rant along the lines of "How many TIMES have we seen the Italians sit on a lead and ground the game into submission? Justice has been done here today..." Seriously he went ballistic! I mean we were all thinking it, Barry, but jesus... |

Thanks for that, Hansen, Shearer and O'Neill. If England are ever to win anything again, it'll be interesting to see just how they do it. What nationality of coach have they put in charge of the national team? Oh yeah. Will you moan and groan about how you won? No. But I won't come on here and gloat because I'm not that kind of person. I'm going to drink more wine. Good luck to Spain. All that great attacking football, that was apparently the victor tonight, according to Hansen, and no goals to show for it. So deserved. Wankers. |

Fernando I understand your upset and disappointment and clearly nobody commenting on here will feel anything but respect for you or the nation of your birth. It was a truly disappointing match, made worse as it followed so soon after the amazing Russia v Holland one the night before. England's failings are only too evident. It's that most fundamental of things in football: possession. We can't pass the ball or control it, so we can't keep hold of it. Buffoons with umbrellas don't help but too few of our players have little more than energy and work rate to offer. Only the most myopic of rose tinted observers would fail to see that. Maybe our new Italian manager will improve certain aspects of the team such as organisation but in a few weeks spread over a year he can't change flaws in basic skills. We'll remain the nearly men, quarter finals at best, for another generation. Anyway, living in the Latin Quarter of Penge (or Paunsch as it's pronounced here), I at least got a decent sleep without all the local Italians (Mr and Mrs Carbonara at number 53) riding up and down the street parping their Vespa horns all night. ![]() Come on Russia! |
