Windows 98 does not include any decent USB drivers, especially the first edition. Download and install and your problems will be over. Remember to check whether you are running the first or second edition of windows 98. The link shows you how. USB 2 devices will work on USB 1 which is what you most probably have. |

Find an internet café with a floppy drive (most of them do because they use cheap old computers). Transfer the USB stuff onto floppy that way, then transfer your writing over to your upstairs computer. This works if you only need to do the transfer the once... |
