I have to agree with Bola – you’ve got too much time on your hands with these threads. It’s a ridiculous idea anyway: why do you consider a sausage roll to be a pie? – it should be disqualified on the grounds of flaky pastry alone (a pie has a baked crust, man). You should allow a Wigan pie instead – a meat pie in a barm cake. Where’s the fish pie? And, finally, how can you call it a world cup when these are all UK delicacies? Still, on my reckoning, balti pie loses on penalties to chicken, ham and leek in the cup final and goes on to meet the Australian meat pie (apparently the skippy-fondlers’ favourite meal) in the pie world cup final. |

Last night Bov was saying I'd 'gone wrong'... Let's consider the evidence... Stage 1. Eating a pie and enjoying it - Abject normality Stage 2. Comparing said pie to other pies one enjoys - Reasonable normality Stage 3. Comparing said pie to 15 other pies - Pretty mad Stage 4. Devising a Pie World Cup - Mad as a Frenchman Stage 5. Posting a Pie World Cup on the internet - Frank Bruno Do you want this man near your children? I sincerely hope not... |

Can't resist a pie thread (even if it may have been a chicken and mushroom flashback to this which appeared on the board last year - the competition ran for real, with the English pie edging out a Japanese concoction in the final. So Bov's a lightweight in the pie mentalist stakes really) You can't put sweet and savoury pies in the same competition, it's like mixing up rugby and football. aStretching to a sausage roll is also obviously wrong - especially given the lack of cold pies in the last 16. I've got half a pork and stilton from Bloomers in Bakewell sat on my desk waiting for lunchtime. There's none finer. EDIT - Damn that was indeed a fine pie. Shortcrust beats puff pastry every time. |
