Er, actually, here's a paste of a gig first, with details of the comp later... The Memory Band + Nancy Elizabeth Cunliffe + The Wisemen + Quiet Jones 9th November, Yorkshire House, Parliament Street, Lancaster. 8pm-1am, £4. Lawm presents a musical feast of an evening. The Memory Band The press said: “One of the coolest bands around” NME (7/10) “A very poignant and somewhat oddly nostalgic treat” MOJO **** “It’s good to hear an album that reduces you to a blubbing wreck” MIXMAG “This is a bewitching and brilliant record” DJ Magazine (9/10) "brims with sinuous, fiddle driven audacity" Chicago Tribune For more details, see www.thememoryband.com Nancy Elizabeth Cunliffe Nancy has built a deservedly excellent reputation whilst playing the Greenman Festival, and picking up supports with the likes of Josephine Foster, as well as getting loads of radio play with her acclaimed “Wheel Turning King EP” out on Timbreland Recordings. Her new album is nearly finished, in the meantime, you can get hold of some of her tunes on Timbreland’s “Furthest Branches From the Trunk” compilation. Using guitar, harp and a Thai Khim, and pure and strong vocals, she creates an enchanted realm - not to be missed! See: www.nancycunliffe.co.uk The Wisemen The Wisemen will be playing a 3-piece acoustic set. They have released several eps and mini-albums on their own Morner Bros label – all of which is collected on their “26 Songs” album. However, their latest release is part of the aforementioned “Furthest Branches From the Trunk” compilation on Timbreland. It’s available for £5.99 or less from Piccadilly Records, Norman Records, Boomkat, Play.com, HMV and more, and features 16 tracks, including Dan Haywood’s New Hawks. See www.myspace.com/thewisemenukband Quiet Jones Quiet Jones is Steve Hugh Jones, frontman of the Gokarnas in a more reflective singer-songwriter mode. Tonight he’ll be helped out by Wiseman Scott Morley and Dan Haywood. www.myspace.com/quietjones Get down to this – you won’t regret it! Oh, and this is what the Timbreland comp looks like: |
