OK we'll keep it in one thread and I'll do one to see if we can keep it going. I've come up with one that follows on from the last which was about Joe Meek. Meek died in the 1960s, so this week's top 5 is a top 5 musicians/producers who died between Jan 1st 1960 and Dec 31st 1969. No managers (like Epstein) or DJs (like Freed) and so on accepted. Just musicians and producers.

I'm bound to have some glaring omissions, but for starters...

1) Sam Cooke
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaNzxniXxYE

2) Eddie Cochran
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRjlZ8x2uQM

3) Robin Roberts (The Wailers)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihpGNoCreyg

4) Patsy Cline
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwOWX6b8HHw

5) Otis Redding
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvw-pA8JhVI

RIP the lot of 'em. Legends.

Well yeah it is in a way. But I like to think of it as more of a tribute!

Expect this thread will end up with just me and Kev alternating turns, but, a reminder that if anyone else wants to have a go, the thread is open for a new subject from midnight tonight.

I was about to say the same as Milchman.

Lesson one: perhaps come up with something less likely to kill the conversation than I did.

This thread seems to be dying on it's arse already, but I'm still prepared to kick the corpse around a bit.

After the biscuit world cup debacle, this top five could prove contentious.

Top five chocolate bars that are no longer made.

5) Minty Cup

Much like the Golden Cup, but with mint flavouring.

4) Bar Six

A sort of Cadbury equivalent to the Kit Kat, also available in plain chocolate under the name Plain Six (later Bar Noir). I always favoured them above the Kit Kat.

3) Plain chocolate Toffee Crisp

The plain chocolate version of the Mackintosh's classic. Is it my imagination, or is the milk chocolate version now a shadow of it's former self now that Nestlé are in charge?

2) Fry's Five Centre

Each segment with a different flavour fondant filling!

1) Lime Aero

Could have made a top five of just obsolete Aero flavours (Strawberry, Rum, Coffee, Plain & Milk), but lime was always my favourite.

I don't eat chocolate so I'll be rubbish at this. Don't they make toffee crisps anymore?

I have no idea what chocolate bars that I ate as a kid may now be missing. I haven't seen a double decker for a while though.

I'll happily kick the corpse about with you!

This almost fits.

As a kid I remember going into the ice cream counter of a shop and asking for mint Feast, only to be told "I'm sorry sir, they don't make them anymore".

I haven't eaten my favourite ice cream/lolly since. Although whilst looking up a picture to post, it seems that they've had a change of heart somewhere along the line. This doesn't look like an old photo!

I'm banning Kev from posting on this thread this week as he clearly has no idea about chocolate confectionery products.

That Frys 5 Centres was ace. Don't remember the plain Toffee Crisp at all.

I'll go for:

I'm happy to take that ban on this subject. I genuinely know bugger all about chocolate. So I won't post until next week's top 5.

I'd forgotten Banjos!
Had I posted this list a few years back, the Aztec would have certainly featured, but the limited edition re-release left me a little underwhelmed. Not sure if I'd built up my hopes too high when I first bought a re-issue or if they hadn't made them to exactly the original recipe, but as good as it undoubtedly was, it wasn't the scrumptious treat of my rose tinted memories. Still, it would still be in my top ten as would the Mint Cracknel.
As for the Texan, it sure was a mighty chew, but I don't remember it as being particularly nice.
Never sampled the coffee walnut whip, but, like the Terry's Mint Pyramid, wouldn't have considered it for this topic, as I wanted to stick to bars. May well do packet sweets in a future post (unless somebody beats me to it).

Does anyone remember Skippy bars? I'm sure I used to love them when I was small, but can't remember what was in them.

Top five mojo boosters

You know how it is. The Fear knaws at your gut. Procrastination is spent. Excuses run out. You set off, trudging towards your fate. Then think, 'hang on a mo'. You whack on a track. Your sinews stiffen. Your head lifts. Your stride lengthens. You're King [or Queen] of the WORLD.
