Rowland does have soul, but in terms of his voice there's a bit too much Chairman of The Board/Van Morrison stars in his eyes for him to be truly great. Alex Chilton in The Box Tops and Van Morrison probably do the best in terms of the honky soul genre. Dusty and a whole gaggle of women do it better though...

As for soul as in singing with passion and intensity, then it's all about who moves you really. As a debate this is a bit daft. What's soul got to do with 'best' lists anyway?
