Which Way Is Up! at The Wilmington Arms
Friday 20th April
£5 adv / £6 door
★ Dignan Porch ★
http://dignanporch.com/
South London noiseniks return to play for Odd Box. Signed to Captured Tracks in the USA.
"Dignan Porch are several matches made in heaven. all the way from exotic tooting, the group touch down into the effects-heavy shoegaze/dream pop world with some lovely vocals and harmonics but they really fly when they unashamedly let loose on the slacker guitar-hero stuff. Bursting with coolness and melodies to kill or die for." - Rough Trade
★ Omi Palone ★
http://omipalone.blogspot.com/
There was a halcyon time when bands like Omi Palone were all teenagers wanted to be when they 'grew' up - where bands channelled the effortless cool of The Velvets, The Bunnymen or The Mary Chain. That seems to happen less these days. So thank fuck Omi Palone are that band for 2012.
“Lovely indie garage rock music… the retro vibe and lo-fi sound, but without all the pretentious sycophantic bollocks. A fine example to a lot of bands of how to get the most out of fuzzy guitar pedals.” (AppleJuice)
★ Manflu ★
http://manflu.tumblr.com/
Another fresh discovery for Odd Box are London based Man Flu whose stated aims are to rock the fuck out and give you tinnitus, STDs & a sense of purpose.
Let's see if they can.
They've a superb download album up on Bandcamp too:http://manflu.bandcamp.com/album/manflu-manflu where the guitars spike and vocals are torn from the singer. Like early Siouxsie and the Banshees kicking off with Trash Kit whilst munching on the best of the Butthole Surfers.
"And finally there’s the brutally uncompromising post-punk rollercoaster they call Manflu; unmissable thanks to the fizzing on-stage musical chemistry between its five members. Frontwoman Aza is a formidable stage presence, ferocious and intense, prowling and ranting like an infinitely better looking Mark E Smith." - ArtRocker
