Martinez assistant - was with us for 2 years before he went with Martinez to Wigan. He understands the way we play, helped implement it first time around. I did say whoever we chose would be relatively unknown. And he was ahead of Rodgers with the bookies before he got the job 2 years ago, too.
Top appointment, for me. |

Hmm, Kuwati with bags of cash rumoured to have bought Forest. Or Leeds. Manager he's hoping to install? Warnock. Dunno whether to hope the ownership issues are at an end or not. Before anyone says anything I know Warnock's good at getting promotion. But he's Warnock. _________________ Embrace the margin |

The key with every Swansea City appointment since Martinez has been consistency about the way we play the game. Martinez started it, Sousa continued it whilst shoring up the defence, and Rodgers took it to another level with some shrewd signings. Graeme Jones offers the Swans the best chance of keeping the style we are known for and improving it, with better quality players now we have a little cash to spend. The only thing he's not proven at for me is how he'll work the transfer market. But we've got a good scouting network so I reckon he'll get plenty of guidance.
I'd be happier if Rodgers had stayed, but he's gone. I'd be happy if this came off. |

Oooooooh. |
That's Norwich fooked (as predicted here a few months ago...) |
I knew Lambert's resignation would bring out the I Told You Sos on this board.
Yes, Lambert has gone and Holt will go with him but no, we are not 'fooked'. As I've said before, we have a seven year plan for financial plan for financial stability which, thanks to Lambert and David McNally, we are four years ahead of. Our aim for next season is to finish fourth from bottom but that's not to Lambert's liking. He wants Norwich to spend more money because he doesn't want a relegation on his CV but relegation is factored into McNally's seven year plan and the squad we have is built for the Championship in the event that we go down, or have Second Season Syndrome. Fortunately, last season, the squad has been bigger than than the sum of its parts, has punched above its weight and survived. We might just do it again next season but if it doesn't and we go down, we're not going to lose overpaid players to Premiership clubs (see Portsmouth, Leeds etc) and we'll come back up within a couple of years, all while being financially sound.
Neil Doncaster was running our club into the ground three years ago but we're now on the verge of stability. If Lambert doesn't want to be part of that and wants to further his career, let him. He's done an amazing job in three years but now we'll find someone else who can work wonders on limited resources; Chris Hughton, maybe. Or Ian Holloway.
Norwich can exist without Holt too. He wasn't always part of our plans this season and the team wasn't 'built around him', contrary to previous comments on here.
Onwards and - maybe - upwards. |

Yep, much as I acknowledge Forest's error in releasing Holt, I'm also sure to my bones that this year's annus mirablis will not be repeated (see also Marlon Harewood). If Holt does go to Villa I'll bet a good amount that the fans will be pining for Emile Heskey by Xmas. In fact Norwich ought to snap up Heskey for the year. The laws of football karma would demand he had a great season.
I've been wrong before mind you. _________________ Embrace the margin |

The problem with Heskey is fitness not ability (no matter what people say, he could still do a job).
Hope Forest do get some money. Big club and lots of fans who have stuck by them despite the lack of success (like an East Midlands version of City but with less inflatables but better Euro pots). Although I'm not sure United and Derby are equals for irritating neighbours... |

Hmmm. Three things that make me wary of bags of cash:
1. The smug yet desperate preening of the County fans when they thought they were booked on the gravy train to success (even more than the sheepish looks when they realised their ticket was a fake bought off a tout).
2. The deeply tedious exchanges earlier in this and other threads about how fair or otherwise it all is. I never want to get drawn into those.
3. The drear expectation that the supporters' job is to cheerlead, even if the manager's Warnock ("I don't know why the supporters are complaining Brian, he's got a good track record, they'll soon forget when they get a few wins")
4. The absolute iron-clad certainty that there's a huge chunk of Forest support who at the first sniff that the cash is real will take to all the above in a way that will make Forest more tedious than County, Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea combined. _________________ Embrace the margin |

Er, that's four things.
Do you actually know many County fans?
As for Warnock, how does having money change your attitude to your manager? Or is it just that you hate Warnock and can't imagine any circumstances where you'd be happy with him at the helm?
As for how fans react to money, well you can guarantee the opposition fans will give you stick, obviously. It's how the fans react to that that's important. There was a very brief period when some City fans started singing "We'll buy your club and burn it down" (admittedly under provocation from the opposition supporters chanting "where were you when you were shit?" even though City were averaging nearly 30000 in Div 3). Luckily that quickly got shouted down by the more sensible element and songs these days are celebratory rather than crass or arrogant.
Anyway I've not read anything about any of this Forest rumour so where's it come from? |

My brother's a County fan, so yes. And they did get all lairy before they got all sheepish.
Yes re the Warnock thing. The man can turn out a decent side, which makes it all the worse when he turns out anti-football specials.Don't forget we've ditched fairly successful managers for prettier models a few times...
There's plenty of nob-end Forest fans who consider the team has a right to be top six Premier League cos of two European Cup wins 30-odd years ago. They WILL be unbearable.
As for the story, a tweeted no comment from the club led me to a Sun article and various things in the Evening Post. Kenny Burns is already rubbing his hands together and you have to assume he's got some sort of inside track. Thing is there's an assumption the bloke in the frame is Mansour-style loaded, but I don't see any immediate evidence of that. It'd be nice to be good again, don't get me wrong. But good, as in playing some nice football with players you kInd of recognise, as we did under Davies, was plenty. _________________ Embrace the margin |

Fair dos re County though massive respect to your brother for sticking with the club.
I know what you mean re aspirations. I've said on here many times that the season we won Div 1 (now the Championship) under Keegan with Huck, The Goat, Eyal and Ali B was my favourite ever. Great football but for one season anyway, successful football too. That anticipation that you'd be happy at 5pm on a Saturday and the confidence that if you went 1-0 down, you'd win 3-1. Not an experience I've had often in my life. But that was before last season which beat everything and any quibbles about the rights or wrongs of cash were chucked out by the way we won the league, both in drama and style of football. It was well worth waiting 44 years and I still find myself on Youtube clicking on 'Aguero goal' for the moment when Tyler goes "Aguuuuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooo!!!!!" and Big Niall utters an emotional "Stupendous!".
Like I said I hope it works out. |

That really was a brilliant season, especially as ITV Digital were going down the pan and decided to put us on every week to try and pull in a decent audience. It's true what you say though, I remeber sitting in the Gene Kelly's against Norwich when Tiatto was sent off after ten minutes, yet still having absolute confidence that we'd win the game comfortably, which we did. A cracking year. _________________ David Silva loves Bakewell Tarts the best

What, like Arsenal. BOOM BOOM!
Just to jeopardise our chances I'm going 4-0 to England tonight against Belgium's 'golden generation'. _________________ REVOLUTION PURITY LOVE SUICIDE ACCURACY

Bearing in mind what an amazing finale the Premier League season delivered last season you'd be hard pressed to make it anything other than exciting. Well.... apparently there's a channel out there in freeview TV land that's funded by Kelvin MacKenzie and covers footy matches live in direct competition with Jeff Stelling and co. And they somehow managed it.
http://youtu.be/jYVYYolhTM8
It's not helped by having 5 pundits watching it (in addition to the Evertonian host) who are four United fans and one QPR guy (who only realises they're safe 2 minutes after everyone else)... |

Crikey indeed. I just noticed his name was trending on twitter but I didn't look why. That must be it. Has he managed before? |
Currently Assistant Manager at Ajax. I said our chairman tends to pick less obvious choices. |
