They should have given Woy more time and they should have given Kenny more time. It's ridiculous. I can't remember off hand where Liverpool finished - 11th or something? United finished 11th in Fergie's second year in charge...

Swansea finished 11th. I think Liverpool were 8th.

Yeah I think this is the real issue. I mean he's clearly got something about him in terms of skill but I don't know if it's a step too far, too soon...

I'm not one of these people who thinks the manager's job is inherently deserving of Europe's best managers, but that doesn't discount me from being massively apprehensive about his appointment. For one, I wanted to see what he could have done with your lot given time and a bit of a transfer budget.

I have faith and admiration in the owners for choosing a talented young coach, I just don't have faith in the fans to let him do the job when things get a bit tough... (i.e. what they did to Hodgson).

I'll watch on with interest because if he gets the time I think he could win Liverpool the league again in 4/5 years. He needs a massive squad clear out first though and he needs to buy people that will fit his ethos.

I watch Martinez at Wigan in the same way.

Swansea will probably appoint an unknown manager who buys into the chairman's philosophy - he found Martinez, Sousa and Rodgers which allowed our squad to grow organically - no new manager in, squad change rigmarole that often accompanies a new appointment. That said, Liverpool need a massive clear out......

Bold words. But you've watched him at closer quarters than I have, I guess...

Just edited that to 4/5 years....

but yeah, he's good enough. And Liverpool have the cash to buy 'better' players than Swansea could ever dream of signing - so if they buy into his ethos they will be better than Swansea at doing the same thing.... It will take time, but if he gets it, he could be the manager to turn Liverpool around.

If you think he's good enough then that's encouraging. He seems the sort who'd build a team around Lucas so that's a decent enough start. And I think Henderson will probably flourish under him if he plays him right...

Although rumours on twitter that Sigurdsson's contract isn't finalised yet. Ooooh!

Who're Swansea gonna go for then? 2 horse race between Poyet and Holloway d'you reckon?

Right, so better than Fergie did in 1988 or whenever it was...

The rumour is it's gonna be someone from Spain..... (Swansea were keeping tabs on a few managers in case this happened). I'm not too up on La Liga and lower leagues so couldn't even hazard a guess....

Martinez back then Trev? I feel sorry for the fella. I wonder why they didn't offer him the job.

He's not as good as Rodgers, I don't think.

I reckon we'll have some relatively unknown Spaniard.

He was one of the favourites for the job when Rodgers got it.....

Our chairman is a bit of a dark horse.... Rodgers wasn't even in the running when he got the job (well, according to the bookies).

The rumour mill is churning that Lambert has quit Norwich and is on his way to Villa Park to discuss the job.

Oooooooh.

Aye. I think Swansea have enough good players to make a decent fist of it without an inspiring manager. Leon "Xavi" Britton for instance. Norwich have no-one. Quite the fuck how Paul Lambert turned someone like Aaron Wilbraham into a Premier League footballer I'll never know...

Martinez is staying. Great news, really like Wigan. Think their director and fans are great - as is the manager.

Shrewd move, I think.
