ha! oh well for all that everyone loves someone who puts four past Leeds and he was deffo one of our better players in the second half of the season, the consensus is it's a lucky move, cheers and goodbye.

Cohen's a much better player as long as he can recover. And we can always spend another season hoping McGugan can actually perform with any consistency.

mind you the consensus was also that we liked Grant Holt a lot but that he probably couldn't hack it at the top of the Championship so...

Do you think you'll try and sign Cunningham on a permanent deal?

Probably not. He was OK, but there'll be other, bigger holes to fill. And even if he's free I'm not sure Forest can match City's youth team wages...

Forest have never been averse to giving an old lag a last pay cheque. Stan Bowles, Charlie George, Ian Wright...

I was wondering whether Everton might take him on a pay per play deal. He is, or was, an Everton fan I believe and they never have any money.

All Liverpool players seem to be Everton Fans - Fowler, McMannaman, Carragher, Owen, Gerrard etc. You have to wonder how crap Everton's scouting system is sometimes don't you!

I'm not sure if Macca was a boyhood blue but, heh, there has been a notable range of them for sure. I think it's just Liverpool have the wealth to hoover up the best talent on Merseyside. Everton probably don't get a sniff...

Carragher's a Liverpool fan now though. Switched allegiance about 6 years ago I think...

I see Villa are after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18116353

I reckon he could be a good manager. After all those years on the Utd bench listening to Fergie ranting & raving, he must have picked up a few things!

McManaman grew up as an Everton supporter but turned them down when offered a one year deal where as Liverpool where offering more at the time.

I think the ball is on the other foot now. Liverpool no longer seem to develop players from an early age. Didn't Rafa get the academy closed down and just wanted to buy young 16/17 year old players hence Stevie Heighway (what a player he was!) leaving. FSG were going to reinstate it but not sure if they have as of yet.

Ah right - I didn't know that but it doesn't surprise me.

But yeah Rafa did two terrible things at Liverpool. 1 was allowing the whole Xabi Alonso mess and his subsequent sale (I miss him more than I miss anyone in the real world) and 2 was decimating the academy. I don't think he closed it down but it was pretty much his last priority. That's the thing he did the worst - setting us back single-handedly a generation in terms of player development.

Although that said there are a few promising young lads coming through. Martin Kelly should be playing every week and Jay Spearing is better than his performances this year have suggested. Flanagan is pony though.

He's already done great things as a manager, although that's in Norway so possibly not a good measure of how well he'd do in the PL, but he certainly has first-hand experience of what it's like in England. I'd love to see him get the job.

Ah yeah I saw Montpelier had won it. I don't know owt about them as I don't really follow French footie. But I've not seen their name in any Euro competition so I'm guessing they've have a bit of a meteoric rise of late?

I'm assuming the whole of France is happy with them sticking it to PSG!

Best result of the weekend that by far for me that one......

Auxerre fans were not the only ones to riot. Hertha Berlins fans went a bit loopy when their team lost over a two legged promotion/relegation tie with Fortuna Dussledorf condemning them back to liga 2.

Man Utd played them in the quarter final of the Cup Winners Cup in 1991...

Ah, they won it that year didn't they? Hughes scored a corker in the final against Barca(?) if I remember.

That's right. I can remember that tournament as well as the CL in 99. By that point they hadn't won shit loads in my life time so it was a really big thing, especially as I'd missed out on European football because of the ban (I was about 6 when that came in). Montpelier in the quarters - then Legia Warsaw in the semi! Dunno what's happened to them...

I lived in Old Trafford 90/91. My friend and I were sat in the Toll Gate when the Man U victory parade came past so we grabbed our pints and followed it into town (this was before world domination so it was actually quiite pleasing that they'd won something).

We left them to it when we got to town and went to Jilly's Rockworld instead for a headbang.

Montpellier aren't a small club by French standards, but they're only a couple of seasons back in the top flight, and a transfer record of £1.7m speaks for itself a bit...
