Bovine Juice is on there (fat bloke with a ginger 'tache). He's posted about 4 things ever in the 13 years (he invented the thing) he's had the account. 47 people are following him. Why? I'm not even sure it mentions SXP so it's not as if they all think this is some top music journo with his nose in the sock drawer of major music celebs like Bono, Tommy Steele and the drummer from the Still Ills.

No idea. I gave up ages ago as I don't get it but people are still following me (I get email updates). I couldn't interact on there. It's a different feel to a message board I think.

It's interesting seeing the push that Twitter has got throughout global media, particularly here and USA.

I've never used it, but have a few friends who do.

It's strange how people use other people's awareness and opinion of them to define themselves, and even more strange how it's a mindset that's readily encouraged within our society.

'I tweet therefore I am.'

People love to communicate. My missus goes on a really big forum which seems to be full of people absolutely convinced about the import and sagacity of their opinions. Nutters.

Of course. Though from what I gather, social networking sites are less about actually communicating in the traditional sense, and more about cementing one's own being via the act of simply stating to others what you're doing, however mundane.

There's a difference between trading opinions with others and telling anyone who'll listen what you just flushed down the toilet.

Conveying what you THINK, is very different to conveying what you DO.

This is true.

I twitter and facebook - to promote Odd Box and shows but I am now trying to cut down on pointless posts and stick to discussions or music related updates.

I'm sorely tempted to stick on ignore or whatever some publicity whores. One, who does put on good nights, sends me at least 4 emails for every update (2 facebook, 2 email group). As they also send reminders it can get very irritating.

Bizarrely I'm not talking about Trev here, though now I think about it......

I use facebook because I find it a useful tool for staying in touch with all of my friends, well, the ones who are on there. It provides convenient mechanisms for contacting them en masse, dropping them a line, inviting them to events/parties, posting photos that we can all share and, also, seeing "what they have been up to" which facebook tells you about periodically.

This is the only reason why I use facebook - it provides a neat like package for how to stay in touch with my friends. I find there is absolutely nothing else to use it for.

What I don't understand is when people say things like "God, I spend SO much time on facebook" and "Like, I can LITERALLY spend HOURS on there...". Erm, what on earth are you looking at??? You can't spy on people either because 95% of users have private settings so... if you're that way inclined then it's useless for that. But, seriously, what is there to spend ALL that time on? I don't get it...

I have never used twitter. I have absolutely no need to do so. This may change but I have no desire to add to the inane procession of telling people what I'm up to...

westieeee# "I'm eating a twix and then I think I'm going to beat off"

Who cares? I also couldn't give a shit what Stephen Fry is thinking about, and summarising in overly flowery language, either. I can understand why people like trev get great use out of it because he's in a position to need to TELL people things. I'm not so... twitter can get fucked.

Exactly right. Communication is two-way. Everything else is a press release.

I like it on here, 'cos there's only a few people and you seem like a nice bunch. We share a lot of common interests & background.

I've signed up for twitter and i've got a few followers but they're people already on my SPC mailing list so it seems a bit pointless using it.

Facebook, I personally use for having inane conversations with pals in and around Sheffield - though I can't quite understand why people have so many friends! I've got 116 friends an that list needs a serious trim. I've also a page for SPC promotion.

It's getting a bit crazy, really. If i've got something to promote I can do a mail-out, send an update on facebook, do a blog on myspace, post on a variety of forums and twitter it. I expect some people get the same message multiple times, and that must be a bit annoying, but what can you do?

Anyone else fed up with MySpace constantly trying to ape Facebook?
I'm not interested in the whole on-line social networking thing, but do find MySpace useful for tracking when my favourite bands are playing live or releasing records. Trouble is even with Adblock on, my home page is full of shit I don't need and can't get rid of. These include a "what are you doing right now?" space, a yard long "activity stream", "people you may know" and a competition to win tickets to "party with Kasabian".
I hate Facebook; I hate Twitter and I'm begining to hate MySpace!

Agree with the guy above. Try INinja ad blocker. This should help solve your problem. This can be found in the online store Google. Here, check https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... mffkfcemnc. Perhaps when changing the IP address, the situation will look different.
