i can't believe the second Yeah Yeah Yeahs record didn't make it on the list this year though...especially considering what did (i'm looking particularly scornfully at those polka dotted popsters).
did gold lion or turn into even make the singles list this year? they should've. |
The album was voted 19th. |

I especially like the way in 2001 you managed to get the title of "Are You Are Missing Winner" wrong not once but twice. Top effort!
Anyhoo, best album of that period: Ultraglide in Black by the Dirtbombs.
Second best: Fever to Tell, Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Best comp (by a billion light years): The Complete Peel Sessions, The Fall _________________ La musique savante manque a notre desir |

thanks VV! i tried to do the albums thing but i ended up doing singles instead. so from the lists provided (from 2002)...
The White Stripes - Fell in love with a Girl. one of my fave singles of ALL TIME
Outkast- Hey Ya! ditto^ but it's too long.
Klaxons - Gravity's Rainbow hate EVERTHING else i've heard by them, and the whole Nathan Barley thing. but i LOVE this.
Manic Cough - Lips and Hips Love everything about Manic Cough. and best frontwoman in England IMO.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Bang one my fave EPs. best thing they've done maybe?
Good Shoes – Small Town Girl great debut release. easily my favourite Good Shoes single.
The Strokes – Reptilia hate the band. but Love two of their singles, this being one. least i can admit it.
Queens of the Stone Age - No One Knows i love how sleazy this sounds. don't really like anything else i've heard by them.
The Boyfriends / Long Blondes: Filthy Little Angels EP4 favourite Long Blondes recordings by FAR. Boyfriends are so boring though.
The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army i Love the lyrics in this so much. |

The Libertines - Up The Bracket
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Idlewild - 100 Broken Windows
The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene
Patrick Wolf - Lycanthropy/Wind In The Wires
Iron and Wine - The Creek Drank The Cradle
Sufjan Stevens - Michigan
The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
Thats if we're allowed to vote for anything, I've no idea what if we're restricted to the polls there, there are some very very peculiar choices there. I mean Coldplay? |

Quite. I assume that was a few years ago when a couple of wronguns amongst the writers could swing the vote in horrible directions. Although the Pipettes did get top ten this year... *shudder* |

Exactly. Shouldn't they be named and shamed or something? I really can't understand the justification for it. Unbelievable stuff. How does this system work? I always thought my taste in music was shite but compared to this lot, i'm John Peel. I can't believe the scribers' choices (and can I just say, am I not a scriber by proxy? Yet not so much as a kiss your arse vote coming my way) _________________ Cavey Cocker, Cup Cake Queen, Saint Thomas. |

Arcade Fire - Funeral
Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Fever To Tell
Detroit Cobras - life, love and leaving
White Stripes - white blood cells
Strokes - is this it
The Libertines - Up The Bracket
Sons & Daughters - The Repulsion Box

I voted for them and I am not ashamed. Pull Shapes was one of the singles of 2006. There again I also voted for them as I knew none of my other choices had a chance of appearring in the lists. Just like 2005, 2004 etc etc _________________ Records I Like - The Culture Bunker- Festive 50 Spotify Playlists |

You're right not to feel shame, Bola. The Pipettes have their place...(and no, no bitchy comment will follow for I am a changed person) It was just sad not to see the likes of 'The girl who was too beautiful' (am I in the right year? heh) up there - or Knights of Cydonia *cough* Or 'Empire' which is a brilliant single and I don't care what the consequences of that are. And talking of brilliant singles, i've had to add Kevin R's 'It's ok Johanna' to my page. It's breaking my heart with it's simplicity and yet raw and thought provoking lyrics, though it sinks like a souffle at the end. _________________ Cavey Cocker, Cup Cake Queen, Saint Thomas. |
