It's been a while since I did an update on here about Odd Box goings on

So here we go:

Up for pre-order at the moment:

ODD027 - Sock Puppets EP
Limited to 120 CD - due back any time soon - http://bit.ly/jQarmC (over half these have sold on pre-order already!)
________________

BOX009 - Ace Bushy Striptease - 'The Words That You Said Are Still Wet In My Head'
Limited to 150 CD copies (50 with hand made sleeve by the band) http://bit.ly/lqAFa8 - preorder up now - due the end of June.

Recently released:

Odd Box Singles Club Six 7" singles for £24 plus postage.
The first three singles are shipping now. The first 200 come with a draw string bag, 4 badges, a sticker, 2 postcards and D/L code for all songs (and a bonus song from The Humms).

Batch 1 (shipping now): The Blanche Hudson Weekend / Horowitz / The Give It Ups / Santa Monica Swim and Dive Club / One Fathom Down / The Humms
Batch 2 (shipping October): The Hairs / The Medusa Snare / Gold-Bears / Bracelettes / The Ketamines / The Vignettes
________________

BOX006 - Sarandon – Sarandon’s Age Of Reason CD/LP (released on Slumberland Records in the USA)
Musically Sarandon have moved their sound forward – Produced once again by the inimitable Anthony Chapman (Collapsed Lung, Bis, Klaxxons, Ten Benson), the sound is a more mature take on the angular agit-pop of their previous outings. The cheese-wire treble of the guitars remains, the bass thuds and booms and the drums clatter at light speed, but the songs contained in Sarandon’s Age Of Reason are more carefully crafted and arranged.

Coming soon:

BOX008 Pocketbooks - Carousel CD
Officially due for release in September - we're hoping to have these beauties back in time for Indietracks (and the tour beforehand).

The second Pocketbooks album was recorded during the winter of 2010. The band gathered in the basement underneath a ukulele shop in east London’s Brick Lane, and played songs late into the night. It would have been a wintry record anyway, but the snow and the dark nights definitely played their part.

The album begins and finishes with a bleak, distant piano, but inbetween there’s a mix of bright harmonies, shimmering guitars and gorgeous strings. The band were joined by the violin section of A Little Orchestra (set up by The Pipettes’ maestro Monster Bobby) who added some warmth and sadness in equal measure.

And their will be a free digital single released on 18th July (the album will go on presale then, too). Promises, Promises will be available to download from iTunes, Amazon MP3 and other digital outlets. The song will also be available to download free at http://www.pocketbooks.org.uk
________________

And also there could will be a top secret 7" by a band I can't name coming out in July (details under discussion at the moment)

Later in the year:

Albums: Proto Idiot, Boundary Jim, Radians (all on CD)
EPs: Anguish Sandwich, and more TBC. (again on CD)

One of your singles (ok it's the obvious one) is on the front page of this week's stock at Piccadilly Records:

Not bad going, Trevbot.

Well - just a small update:

Sock Puppets EP - we're down to the last 6 copies of this release. Once it is Out of Print we won't be doing another run.
The Understudies - Wanting vs Getting CD EP - we're down to the last 10 copies of this release. The new single (7" orange vinyl) is selling well too. So be quick to snap one up if you want a copy!

At the end of August Sarandon release (digital stores only) the single Piglet which comes with the covers 'Expecting Joe' (McTells) and 'Crafty Fag' (The Nightingales).

The Pocketbooks album, Carousel, officially hits the shops on September 12th. You can order the album now direct from Odd Box and it'll be post straighy away.

Coming up:

The final instalment of the Odd Box Singles Club:

ODD023
The Hairs - Feeling A Lot Of Feelings / Hey Hitler
The Medusa Snare - I Saw You Look The Other Way

ODD024
Gold-Bears - You Don't Want a Boyfriend / Bedroom
Bracelettes - You Made Me Laugh / Those Days

ODD025
The Ketamines - Rotten Bond / Yr (Alternate)
The Vignettes - Baby Angel Boy / Not Much To Say

- hoping to have these three 7" singles back by the end of September. I'm also working on the Odd Box zine that will be coming with the final 3 singles if you subscribed to the whole club!

In October there is another 7" coming out - this time by Chapter 24 (Spindle B/W 4454)

Save me a Sock Puppets and I'll pick it up Friday, if I haven't imagined that you're putting on another gig that night! Rosie Taylor Project, innit?

OK, a little snippet of what's coming up:

Just a quickie to let you know that a new website is coming soon. It’s gonna be super-duper. And it’ll have all manner of stuff on it.

Until then some tidbits of news on forthcoming releases:

August 30th - Sarandon – Piglet download single (iTunes/Emusic etc) backed with two covers ‘Expecting Joe’ (McTells) and ‘Crafty Fag’ (Nightingales).

September 19th – Pocketbooks – Carousel. Album released on CD into all good record shops and download emporiums. Available to order exclusively at the moment from the ODD Box Shop.

October 31st – Chapter 24 – Spindle / 4454 – Limited run 7″ single will be released. Pre-orders should be up in September.

Late September/Early October – One Happy Island – Unsummer CD EP. A new four song CD EP limited and numbered (150), with 4 new recordings. And the first outing for new member Meghan.

November – The Rosie Taylor Project – Twin Beds. The second record by The Rosie Taylor Project is being released on Odd Box on CD packaged in a beautiful card sleeve. Their recently self released 7″ single ‘Sleep’ is available from the Odd Box shop now. And their will be a digital single before the album comes out, too.

The next three Singles Club singles are going into production, so sometime before October expect the next three singles to land on your doorstep if you’ve subscribed to the singles club:

The Ketamines/The Vignettes split 7″
Gold-Bears / Bracelettes split 7″
The Hairs / The Medusa Snare split 7″

There will also be a mini fanzine with the final singles (hopefully). If you’ve not ordered your numbered copy of the Singles Club yet there is still time to snaffle one of the first 200 (which comes with an Odd Box drawstring bag loaded with goodies).

And if you come along to any of these shows in the coming months you’ll be able to pick up a free Odd Box badge (we’ve got 5 new designs landing in the next few weeks!)

Friday September 16th – Pocketbooks, Cancel The Astronauts & Anguish Sandwich @ The Wilmington Arms, Clerkenwell, London.

Wednesday September 21st – Vostok 5 – with Tigercats, Darren Hayman, Hexicon, Rotifer & Fever Dream @ The Wilmington Arms, Clerkenwell, London. A special one off show celebrating the music/art project Vostok 5.

Saturday October 8th – The Blanche Hudson Weekend, Sock Puppets (Denmark) and Bracelettes @ The Windmill, Brixton, London. A special album launch show for friends of Odd Box The Blanche Hudson Weekend – with new club night Fall Out Make Up after the bands. This promises to be a riotous evening. There will be a 4th band to add to the bill, too.

Friday October 21st - Wake The President + The Understudies and 1 to be confirmed @ The Wilmington Arms, Clerkenwell, London.

Singles Club news!

The next 3 Odd Box Singles Club 7" will be ready in about 4 weeks.

ODD023 The Hairs / The Medusa Snare

The Hairs - Hey Hitler / Feeling A Lot Of Feelings
From Brooklyn, NYC. Signed to Magic Marker in the US. This is the bands debut release in the UK. This is Kevin (Knight School, Lil Hosptial) new project and it's a beautful scratchy lo-fi pop music. The two songs on this 7" are exclusive to this release (as are all songs in the Singles Club). They have another UK release coming soon on Wee Pop! Records too. The Hairs are soon to be cult favourites.

The Medusa Snare - I Saw You Look The Other Way
Following up from their debut release (Cinderella album on Squirrel Records). The latest release by Manhattan Love Suicides off shoot The Medusa Snare sees Adam John Miller honing his sound down to a howl with echoes of his former band The Manhatten Love Suicides. 'I Saw You Look The Other Way' comes with an added kick of anthemic guitar action, showing that The Medusa Snare are not afraid to push the volume and get their rock action on.

ODD024 Gold-Bears / Bracelettes

Gold-Bears - You Don't Want a Boyfriend / Bedroom
Gold-Bears are special (with releases on Magic Marker and Slumberland) - this is their debut UK release. Their recent debut album 'Are You Falling In Love?' gained 7.6 on Pitchfork. The two songs on the Singles Club (both exclusives) are bristling with noisepop energy sounding like a cross between early My Bloody Valentine and The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. This is pop! This is punk! This music will steal your heart. Fall in love.

Bracelettes - Those Days / You Make Me Laugh
Bracelletes are a trio from London (via Japan). This is their debut 7". Imagine The Ramones reincarnated with a front duo of Japanese girls on bass/guitar and vocals. The 1,2,3,4 heads down approach of The Ramones at their live shows (where they've recently supported Shonen Knife and Trash Kit) is augmented on record by managing to nail some catchy tunes to their frenzied pop punk sounds. Delicious.

ODD025 Ketamines / The Vignettes

Ketamines - A Rotten Bond / 1 YR
Ketamines from Canada are a fuzzy psych influenced storm of garage guitars. Their debut release came out on the cult label Hozac in the US. These two songs are the bands first released in the UK. A Rotten Bond is swirling trip that calls on 50s b movies, 60s garage and punk fuzz guitars. '1 YR' is a brooding piece of garage rock that creeps and crawls whilst being haunted by ghosts of rock n roll past. Spell binding.

The Vignettes - Baby Angel Boy / Not Much To Say
Another US band getting their first UK release on the Odd Box Singles Club. The Vignettes are a duo from Memphis, TN (arguably the birth place of this thing we call rock n roll). These two songs were recorded at the legendary Sun Studios (Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley etc). These girls who have a host of self released lo-fi CDs to their name have scrubbed up their sound to find a couple of genuine foot stomping rock n roll classics. This is banshee wailing female fronted rock'n'roll - hear them scream!

All those that ordered the Singles Club subscription should get these in 6-8 weeks time. For those that haven't yet ordered we still have a few subscriptions available. They come with an Odd Box drawstring bag, 4 badges, 2 postcards, a sticker, six 7" singles and D/L codes for all 6 releases (that's 12 bands and a total of 20 songs!).

We're also working hard on getting a wee Odd Box fanzine together to go with the above. Fingers crossed it all comes together in time!

You can order the whole shebang here for £24 (plus postage!) - http://oddboxrecords.com/release.php?id=23

You can stream all the songs on band camp: http://oddboxrecords.bandcamp.com/album ... 011-part-2

Happy Listening!

Tons of Odd Box news:

February is going to a MAMMOTH month for ODD BOX. We've got a slew of releases coming up!

1st Feb - Free download single from Proto Idiot - Cracked.
A little taster for the forthcoming album 'Idiot Proto'.

6th Feb - Baaneex - Weird Dance Plus.
The final 6 song EP from Baaneex. Limited to just 75 copies. This 6 track beast gathers up for more WEIRD DANCEs and two bonus songs. Sad that it's gonna be the final release from the band as one of them is going to live in Japan. Expect tears.

13th Feb - The Rosie Taylor Project - Twin Beds
An absolutely stunning record from The Rosie Taylor Project and their first in nearly 4 years. Sounds XP have already called it a 'melancholic masterpiece'. We also have a launch show set for the 13th February at the Lexington - more details in this thread.

17th Feb - Which Way Is Up! returns to the Wilmington Arms with The Ethical Debating Society, Bordeauxxx, Colour Me Wednesday and The Ritas. Tickets on sale for £5.

23rd Feb - A new album by One Happy Island in time for London Popfest. 'A Purpose of the Surface' is a 17 song pop feast from our favourite indiepop skiffle beat combo.

Talking of London Popfest - Odd Box is chuffed to see so many 'Odd Box Bands' playing. Be sure to come along and catch One Happy Island (23rd Feb), The Give It Ups and Sock Puppets (24th Feb), Ace Bushy Striptease (25th Feb) and The Rosie Taylor Project (26th Feb).

27th Feb - Proto Idiot - Idiot Proto
A new 12 song wander through the hazy mind of one Andrew Anderson (he of The Hipshakes). A little more polish than his previous outing for Odd Box. I said a little. This is still scratchy lo-fi rock n roll of the highest order.
