i just got billyvoddan in the sweepstake at work. the little description basically says "this horse won't win".

i find it hard to watch though as the falls look (and are) so murderous.

Oh I know you weren't directly criticising the guy, I know that. I just think that suicide should be treated as a tragedy and nothing more... It's only when people show the intent of damaging or killing others that question marks should arise.

I agree with your point though... I think that these things should be highlighted because they just... happen. Simple as that really. And plus if a commuter gets ridiculously irate because of delays caused by someone hurling themselves under a train then I would suggest that they take a look at what they deem important in life...

Sure. I can't imagine really how your friend must must feel and I would hate to demean his sadness, as I'm sure you know. I've lost friends suddenly at young ages, but know it's not the same thing and, while you mention that you hope a friend of mine never feels so desperately low that they feel they have to end it all etc, I have come to deal with a suicidal close friend for well over three years now (though I've known him for much longer), but have fortunately never had to know what it feels like for him to suddenly make that final decision. So I hate to sound like my thoughts are the be all and end all on suicide.

With my friend, as it happens, thankfully he's not in that place right now, but when it had at one point got to the point where he refused to let people help him anymore and stopped taking his medication because he liked the comfort and pity that having SAD bought him, and liked the attention that follwed his increasinly erratic behaviour, learning to be cynical about it became the only way to deal with the fact that when he is in that place again where his close friends and family can physically do no more to help him, and he won't help himself (having finally decided to start helping himself is why he's still here), then I shouldn't be surprised in the least if he does. And if he were to do it by diving under a train, I would of course be more disappointed in him than sorry for him, but that's just me.
