I was a bit of a recluse at School (also bog standard comprehensive affair) and just stuck to the same small group of friends... School wasn't harsh for me it was just bloody depressing, I suppose everyone was depressed when they were at school 'cos of all those new hormones messing about with ones mind and body. I remember Nirvana suddenly being popular in School after Nevermind was released and all the kids pretended to like them to look cool. It was quite bizarre really because all the music I had been listening to up to that point was really unpopular so it felt like a bit of an invasion really. ... it was quite funny though 'cos if you called yourself a fan you had to name at least 4 of their songs (not including Smells Like Teen Spirit or Polly) otherwise the cool kids would beat you up.
Anyway, this has nothing to do with the question... there was one particularly odd boy who for the first few years of school was just slightly weird but quiet and thus quite unpopular; once he started taking growth hormones though he turned into a complete nutter. Every time someone picked on him, however slight, he'd go into a rage and start chucking sharp objects like compasses at the offending person. One unfortunate kid wound him up to such an extent that he chucked a chair at him but didn't stop there, he placed the back of the chair on this kids head and jumped on it.... I think they were sent to hospital. This nutter wasn't without his charms though; in one particular English lesson he was sat reading a magazine quite openly and the teacher, who was quite annoyed, asked him what he was doing and with his head down he nonchalantly said "I'm waiting for something interesting to happen"
