I ought to hate the Monkeys, as they represent most of what I despise about the current indie scene - yet another guitar band recycling tired old riffs, etc etc - but I've warmed to them a bit over the past few months.

As Bovey's mentioned, they are a cut above the rest lyrically and they have a peculiar charm that just about makes it possible to overlook the repugnant media frenzy currently surrounding them.

It'll be interesting to see where they go from here. A modicum of wit and a lot of acne will only get you so far. And their singer has a worryingly one-dimensional delivery - still, that never hampered Liam Gallagher (NB, the Monkeys are NOT the new Oasis, as some media hacks are claiming - they're the new Supergrass).

Of course, if I like 'em then the end is clearly nigh as I have an impressive record of backing lost causes.
