Where's the Shakespeare pal? Never heard of it.

Royal Inn on the Park is a Fullers alright. Expensive as fuck like all of the pubs round Victoria Park. Like the Crown and the Lauriston.

The Britannia was always my favourite round there, as I mentioned before, but that's changed to the strangely names 'People's Park Tavern' now :? http://www.drinkinlondon.co.uk/peoplestavern. Think it was almost exclusively Hackney Brewery pumps when I stumbled in there on New Year's Eve...

Ah right it's that pub. Never been. They also own The Approach in Bethnal Green... (and The Reliance on Old Street I think)

I would of thought that would increase the protein content of their burgers.

No shortage of pests round there, clearly. Another link off the article pointed to a mice infestation at the Haggerston pub

Had a few pre and post gig beers at the wonderfully named Farr's School Of Dancing opposite Dalston Junction station last night. It was amazingly hipster and beard free and the beer was reasonably priced at £3.80 a pint.

Haven't been in there yet Bola. It's an Antic pub - they're the people behind the Clapton Hart.

All of their boozers conform to the same schtick, it seems. They've taken over the Old George on Bethnal Green Road too which I'm not that happy about because they've ripped the TVs out. Seems that the modern pub doesn't want people watching football in it, which is a dire shame...

Ahh - that figures given the stripped back floorboards/walls scheme and the beer range.

You will have to switch to drinking Carling and find a nice sports bar mate.

I like Antic. They are definitely one of the better pub companies. They own the Westow in Crystal Palace and it's a bit dark inside, with overly loud music after 9 at weekends but you can't argue with its beer choices (about 9 ales on)

Yeah they've got their pros and cons Antic pubs. But The Clapton Hart really is excellent. So long as they don't become too omnipresent they're ok by me.

Every areas got to have a mix of boozers. Somewhere like Bethnal Green's got a nice balance of a variety of establishments serving old and new, working and middle class punters. I like that. All Hackney pubs are turning a bit identikit...

I've been to a couple of cracking Antic pubs and one that was nearly an Antic boozer.

Leyton Technical is good, it's in the former Leyton Town Hall. Bola you should check it out next time you go to an O's game.

Also been to one way down in South London that's a converted all Post Office that has kept a lot of the old PO charm. I think it's called The Sylvan Post.

And Chequers in Walthamstow was Antic for a short while, they did the make over and then were somehow gazumped and lost the pub. Apparently the staff were kept on and prefer the new owners, saying Antic were pretty bad employers......

I like The Clapton Hart too, it's only a couple of miles down the road, too.

I went to the Plough on Sunday night and I have to say I was impressed due to the low beard/hipster read dickhead count which I am guessing was due to the day of the week. Beers from the Hackney Brewery and Redemption were in excellent condition.

Speaking of Antic went to Pratts and Payne in Streatham at the weekend. Wasn't impressed by the pub (bit cavernous and no atmosphere and the random assortment of tables and chairs was annoying) but had a cracking APA which I can't remember the name of. Lovely staff too.

Westie - have you tried the relaunched on Homerton Hight Street? I am amazed that this place has become the latest hipster joint. I spent most of my younger years trying to pull nurses and radiographers in there but had more luck on the pool tables. Happy memories - I hope they have left all the Edwardian fittings intact.

Nah I haven't mate! I saw they were doing it up when I went past a few weeks back but it doesn't surprise me really. All of the pubs in Hackney (literally all of them) are becoming the same type of thing. I mean it's in my interest because I'm very happy about the quality of beer you can get in them all. But... every area requires diversification in its pubs, surely. Somewhere like Bethnal Green's still got the balance. You've got a mix of old and new, rough and poncey. Places for everyone to drink. Hackney pubs are becoming one homogenous lump of expensive beer, moustaches and mismatched furniture. Fine up to a point but you need diversity.

Also noticed The Gun on Well Street Market was reopened very recently. Tiny little boozer but looks pretty good - might have a look.

Where's left now round Clapton/Homerton? The Hospital Tavern shut recently too. Not that I ever dared set foot in there but, y'know. Be a bit odd if that gentrified I have to say... Probably only a matter of time before The Jackdaw and Stump changes too. And after that? Not sure there's anywhere left.
