Thumbs up from me! Had the Dexys one on 7". That record got played so much it ended up warped. I wonder if it still exists? I'm at my parents now so I might look in the shed and see. Probably my most played single as a kid - mainly for the A-side though.

Yeah Geno was a great single but it was that cover that introduced me, a silo'd new wave/post punker, to the joys of northern soul (though I had no idea it was a cover at the time)

To be honest I probably didn't either. And when you listen to something like Geno it references that scene loads - as does the band name and song title! When I was 5 or whatever, I probably had no idea what Northern Soul was.

Never much cared for the Nicky Thomas version, but I'm glad, at least, that you didn't go for the Stiff Little Fingers version Kev; that truly was abysmal.
