The ICA celebrates all things Blondie next month, with films, TV clips, Blondie karaoke and guests in conversation (but not Debbie Harry!).
It doesn't look to me to be a particularly inspiring program, but thought it may be of interest to some of you. I do recommend the films Hairspray & Videodrome, but as it's probably only Kev who hasn't seen those and he lives in a far off foreign land, it's probably a worthless recommendation.

You might be able to help here Milchy - a song I was thinking of for the atypical songs thread. A few years ago a mate played me this track - it was almost lounge music, or certainly more easy listening than you'd expext. I couldn't guess who it was. Turns out it was Blondie - not sure what it was called but it's on one of their studio albums I'm pretty sure (mark 1). Any ideas?

Hang on - are you having a laugh or did you not know? That video was filmed in The Isles Of Scilly! I know some of the people in it!

It's definitely not that one - I think it was earlier and not a single.

I had no idea Kev. I'll have to dig out the albums (I only have the first four though) later and see if I can work out which song you're thinking of. Think there are others on this forum that are more likely to know than me.

Yup. They came to Scilly to film that - out of all the places in the world! Shame it was their shittest single, but still...

It wasn't tropical sounding or exotic - more just a casual thing - they type of song you'd expect from Dusty of Carole King or someone... I think...

Possibly this - 'Follow Me' (from the Autoamerican album but originally written by Lerner and Loewe for the Camelot musical: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO2AH7KX0zo

I only have the first four Blondie albums (Autoamerican was #5) so I was scratching my head, thinking that you didn't mean The Tide Is High or their Buddy Holly cover.

It's still a good song. No idea why Scilly was chosen. Weird. So who do you know in that video? Is it some of the people in masks because the boys from the band are the only ones who appear with faces showing (besides Debs of course).

Yeah the rowers. They're a special type of boat called a Pilot Gig with is local to Scilly and Cornwall. They were used in the olden days -17/1800s - to get local pilots out to passing ships to secure safe passage through the rocky waters down here. They were built for speed because it was quite lucrative. Whichever pilot got on board the ship first got the money, so they'd race. Now they race them for fun. The world championships is held here every year. They're much more widespread now obviously... more info on wikipedia probably.
