Goodbye Faithful Kingdom! temporarily relocates to The Fly this month and we’re featuring a myriad of marvellous eclectic bands. We have the serene folk pop of Serafina who has been compared to Joanna Newsom, mainly because she plays the harp and is ace; she is joined by her full band Nighttime Ron which is very exciting! We also have the orchestral-rock of The Monroe Transfer, the rich folk-noir of Fireworks Night and Dave Howell from FatCat records will be spinning some glorious African/Asian records alongside electronica and post-rock stuff. It’s almost like a mini All Tomorrow’s Parties!
SERAFINA STEER AND NIGHT TIME RON
http://www.myspace.com/drumstreetsefa
Serafina plays harp and keyboards and creates beautifully barbed music that will both soothe and rattle your soul. She’s worked with the likes of Ravi Shankar, toured with Young Marble Giants and Pram and has been compared to Brian Eno, Ivor Cutler, Joanna Newsom and Laurie Anderson.
In 2007 Serafina released a 7" single and an album entitled ‘Cheap Demo Bad Science’ on Static Caravan records. Her compositions are a mixture of thoughtfully written everyday vignettes, and slightly upsetting dreams. They are played and sung with great beauty and skill, clearly revealing her classical training
“the music itself is often intriguing and pretty but the voice keeps it from being sickly sweet” – Rant Magazine
“this girl is good, really good” – Music OMH
THE MONROE TRANSFER

The Monroe Transfer are a UK-based, 7-piece group, making beautifully detailed and passionately executed instrumental music on a variety of instruments. They have two forthcoming releases including a unique CD & DVD double-pack of ‘I Dreamt I Was A Hammer And Everything Was Glass’, featuring animated film by Gemma Burditt to be released on Organ Grinder Records and a 10" vinyl on Stereo Test Kit Records. Rather excitingly, this will be the first Monroe Transfer appearance for new bass lady Susie!
"At their most beautiful they’re able to lightly brush the places that so few other instrumental acts can...it’s exciting when a band that features not a single singer is able to take you away to someplace other than the here and now on fabulous waves of orchestral sound. The Monroe Transfer, at their most beautiful, are that band." - Drowned in Sound
FIREWORKS NIGHT

Fireworks Night play slow-burning, tragi-folk infused with the drama of Brel, bluegrass and gypsy traditions. A mini-album entitled ‘A Mirror, A Ghost’ will be released in the autumn on Organ Grinder Records and they have recently supported Sunset Rubdown, St Vincent and KT Tunstall.
"Fragile, divinely crepuscular and slightly off-kilter folk popsters." Time Out
“The multi-layers of instruments gently explode together to make a song that is both simple and complex… they make songs that take you on a musical adventure and tell you a story, and Echo's Swing is no exception.” – Times Online (track of the week)
