Teeth of The Sea / [pockets] / Sailplanes / Casa Bonita / Superman Revenge Squad / Repton Oaks DJs / Teeth of The Sea Oh, I dunno....'an enormous Lovecraftian beast stomping into the Red Rose theatre during a noise alldayer and trampling bespectacled thirtysomethings in obscure band T-shirts under his tentacled appendages while howling unearthly oaths through 46 Marshall stacks'?...'The tensions of a thousand predators in the split second before they pounce on their unsuspecting prey'?.... 'A bunch of skinny bespectacled wasters making a racket in an overheated basement'? Delete where applicable. http://www.myspace.com/thewrongjaws [Pockets] [pockets] describe their sound as like “a match being lit”. The band is brothers Andrew and Raul, formerly of ‘These Hands’. Other people have likened them to the White Stripes. This would be accurate if Meg White could play drums…and looked like the bastard son of Prince and David Blaine… and if Jack White sounded more like a squawking chicken than a wailing cat…and wrote songs about really weird and interesting stuff. http://myspace.com/pocketslondon The Sailplanes The Sailplanes are agressively and wonderfully different. They eschew bass in favour of two very different sounding, loud guitars while Tim and Stacey alternate on the vocal duties. Some songs have the sort of edgy and crazed distortion and noise ... others are simply sublime little pop gems and sometimes they're both. Recently they decided to jettison their old material and start playing an entirely new set: the new set's fantastic, of course. - I Shot The Deputy http://www.myspace.com/thesailplanes Casa Bonita Illuminati 3 bandmates James Aslett and Andy "Doog" Phipps formed noisy 2-piece Casa Bonita in the summer of '05, then got bored and sleepy for a bit. Then I3 broke up and they went crazy. Gonzo noise: fierce, clever and original. Imagine Lightning Bolt if they'd come from Bognor Regis and loved the Beach Boys and Pixies. http://www.myspace.com/casabonitaband Superman Revenge Squad Not exactly stream of consciousness, more stream of whiskey consciousness. Disaffected but realistic... They are not bile filled but withering, songs for the lonely or those who all too well remember the isolation of loneliness and how it affects your world view. Every day takes the light at the end of the tunnel a few steps further away. But the songs are far too witty to be depressing, humour tempering the disillusion. - Indie Dad http://www.myspace.com/supermanrevengesquad DJ Set from The Repton Oaks (The Repton Oaks is Rashied Garrison, star Maps Magazine journo) http://www.myspace.com/reptonoaks All the info and flyers you could ever possibly need: http://www.redheadedstepchild.co.uk/ |
