According to an apparently reliable source Wayne Rooney will sign for the rag scum for £12m next summer on a Bosman. Done deal allegedly. Reason for U****d is that he's young and doesn't want to go too far from home. Disaster if true.

Don't let it bother you BJ, he's a flash in the pan anyway! :?

Everybody's raving about him, but I'm still not convinced (even though he's had a great tournament so far). Long may it continue obviously, but all these comparisons to the greats of the game are a little premature if you ask me.

I thought this Bananas when I heard the media branding him the new Pele - come on, the boy is still in the early days of his career - I really hope the media do not create a monster out of him - as it is he needs to work on his temper - it's no good being a good player if you're a sent off one and for this reason alone in some ways he's a liability.

I think they were referring to Pele's impact in Sweden 1958 when he was only 17 rather than the finished article! Granted Rooney scares the hell out of defenders but his club form is very poor unlike his goal scoring for England.

Let's hope he does not go the same way as Gazza.

Hmmm, there'a bit of a difference in quality of his team mates for England than at Everton

He seems to be a big game player. He made his name initially with that spectacular goal v Arsenal. Play him against Leicester on a wet Tuesday and he's barely interested. And ok he's had a similar gob dropping effect to Pele in 58 but all this "new Pele" should be stopped right now, whatever the reasons. Half his qualities are strength and fearlessness. His first touch is sometimes awful.

Well, it had to be said. Why do you think the River Mersey runs through Liverpool? It would get mugged if it walked.

I think he's a big talent, I'm sure he'll continue to show his skill and desire as he ages.

Thank god for Rooney, I don't think we'd have reached the quarter finals without him. The only thing is I'm sick of the media going on about him being 18 and the Pele stuff.... shame really, because it puts people off

fighting talk Tim! I'm sure our mates in the Bandits (and having passively inhaled a lot of their dope smoke, I think we can count them as mates!) would like to have a little word with you. After they get out of jail for robbin', that is!

The Standard ran an interview with his uncle the other night, (pictured outside his pub), saying how they would make sure he didn't he didn't go bad because he had a caring family. Yeah right, a caring family that's already selling their connection to the papers
