Thinking about the Housemartins and their axe-weilding drummer reminded me about that bloke from The Charlatans who was done for bank robbery (can't remember his name; he was the keyboard player - and getaway driver - I think). So, we have a drummer and a keyboard player. Could we make a whole band out of convicted fellons? Two guidelines: (1) drug busts don't count and (2) best if they were pinched after becoming known in the music biz. |

James Brown's spent about 5 years of his life in jail for wife beating and other crimes. So there's the vocalist. |

there was a well known session drummer in the 80s (played with clapton etc) who killed his mother with a hammer. |

Arthur Lee went to prison for threatening someone with a gun. And I'm surprised no-one's mentioned any of the rock nonces (Gary Glitter, Jonathan King, Pete Townshend, that bloke out of Bay City Rollers). I think Fela Kuti spent some time in prison, but being a political prisoner probably shouldn't count as being a felon. |

If we're looking at felons who've done hard time, we need Bertrand Cantat of the french rockers Noir Desir. He's currently doing 8 years for manslaughter, being responsible for the actress Marie Tritignant having a skull like a crushed cadbury's creme egg. |

As long as we’re using the term “vocalist” in the widest possible sense, I would nominate Ian Brown. If you recall he spent a few months in the clink in the late 1990s for an air rage incident, which at on point involved him trying to break into the cockpit. Interesting to note that if this had happened post-9/11 he probably would have been wrestled to the ground and shot in the head. |

Townshend accepted a caution and was put on the Sex Offenders Register for 5 years. And "Everyone's Gone To The Moon" was music. Extremely bad music, but still music. |

We're in danger of forming the world's ugliest band here (yes even uglier than anything Merseyside's produced in recent years). |
