True musical aesthetes, The Immediate are one of the best and certainly most interesting bands anywhere just now. For starters, there’s that name – The Immediate. They are anything but; other than their crucial single Never Seen, theirs is music that needs to be heard often to get under the skin. The deal is that once it does, it’s there for good. The performance is first rate - bizarrely relaxed and yet totally conscientious. There’s much swapping of instruments; for newcomers, it always comes as a shock when the guy who’s been playing drums for the first few songs suddenly leaps from behind his kit and turns into the most charismatic, not to say insane, frontman of the night. What distinguishes The Immediate is their challenging approach to song structures; verses, choruses, middle-eights, none appear where you’d necessarily expect them to, if they even appear at all. Nor (and this is the biggest surprise) do they actually perform their debut single, and Faction One contribution, Never Seen. Given the superior quality of their other material, they don’t need to either.
They're an intelligent, tight experimental indie-pop band and they're just joyful to watch and hear. Their album has just been released over here and it's one of the albums of the year, Irish or otherwise. I reckon they're gonna be huge
That enough spiel?
