Obviously not overly bothered about the prize itself (go Hawley!) - but did like this selection of supportive reviews as specially submitted to, and selected by, the BBC site. In particular somebody decided that poor old Thom Yorke could get no better support than a review wishing he'd had the rest of Radiohead with him and calling the sound "profoundly amicable" - which is superbly faint praise. And as for the Arctic Monkeys one declaring "No other artists can claim to be as diverse in their writing as the Arctic Monkeys. " - that's almost too sweet to argue with... |

GUILLEMOTS by ALEXANDER C.HALE, Birmingham "....They write songs by their own rules, tear down the usual songwriting conventions..." I hate it when people say that and Guillemots most definitely haven't torn down barriers. Its the usual verse/chorus format but with a few added instruments BIG DEAL....er yes, anyway. That doesn't mean I'm not fond of a few of their songs. EDIT: actually, it's good that they're using other instruments rather than the usual boring guitars but well, ...er.... has anyone got a gun? |

Hmmm, yes the Guillemots. I bought the album and quite enjoyed it - but groundbreaking it ain't. In fact, although it stays the right side of the Coldplay line, it does sail very close to it indeed.[/i] |

Trying to compare Richard Hawley with the Arctic Monkeys is a little like comparing a mysterious and complex pudding with the perfect salty chip. One isn't better than the other Er, yeah one is actually. WTF? Trying to compare Hawley with the Artic Monkeys should get you hung, drawn and quartered and put in pies for your mother to eat because she gave birth to you (and breathe) We already had the Monkees - we didn't need any more monkeys in our music zoo. The sooner they become extinct the better. |
