Nah, no sorrow in this corner. An 'ok' band but if you run your fingers along my cd collection you will find no Weezer in there. |

Thst Buddy Holly song was great!! OK, one decent song in a 15 year career is not a spectacular return, but as good as, say, Morrissey over the same period ... |

*voice of dissent* i quite liked them actually. not going to cry myself to sleep over it or anything and that last single (and album by allaccounts) was horribly shit. but i liked them. i only really heard them in any detail in the last couple of years actually after buying the green album on a whim, then blue and pinkerton. loads of great superfuzzed 60s pop influenced tunes on each. i am however aware of the cult of nerdiness that believes as someone said that the blue album was the greatest thing ever blah blah and can see how if you'd been exposed to that kind of hyperbole over time you might form a reaction against them. in my ignorance i stumbled across them relatively recently and thought "good tunes, meaty guitars, dissonance, handclaps... i like it". they seem to have a sense of humour about themselves without being smug or contrived. it would be easy to lump them in with that quirky twee geek pop trap in which the likes of the utterly repellent fountains of wayne and the tremendously irritating they might be giants reside. i think they were better than that. no biggie you understand but i think that "that one with the funny video was alright" is a bit of a cruel obituary all things considered. |
