i'm not sure a song has EVER annoyed me so much, in my whole life, as the Kooks' new single (if you don't know it, the chorus goes 'i know, she knows, i'm not fond of asking') does. seriously. i don't know what it is about it. maybe the guys accent in the chorus, maybe the video/image of the band, i dunno. there's just something about it that somehow seems to embody everything i hate about 'indie' music right now. but it goes deeper than that. i actually can't describe how much i hate it! i hate it so much that it makes me wonder if everyone has a song or band that they truly hate above all others? |

Saw them supporting Subways last year and the kids went mad for them. Billy Ray Cyrus 'Achy Breaky Heart' has to be the song that makes me want to kill teh most though, really gets to me for some reason. |

It's entirely possible to make fun, poppy indie-rock without being so cynical and predictable. One of the biggest criticisms aimed at The Kooks in this thread is not a snobbish charge that they're not "serious" or "meaningful", but that they're just boring |

I think they were ok live, supergrassy but lacking the edge. Yet to hear anything on record by them to excite me but think I have only heard 2 singles. |
